Chicago Fire

Casey and Severide’s apartment

Antonio Dawson: Hey, sis.

Dawson: Antonio! Antonio. I think Casey's in trouble.

Antonio Dawson: Whoa, whoa, slow down. What's happening?

Dawson: Um, I'm at his place. And, uh, one... One of the... One of the girls from the club, she's here. She's been shot… She's dead, and I don't know where Casey is.

Antonio Dawson: Okay, we got a pinging order on his phone. Hang tight.

Dawson: Okay.

Jack Nesbitt’s strip club

Tomov: Okay, where is it? She's always writing in a notebook. Where does she keep it?

Jack Nesbitt: He doesn't know.

Casey: I do know… I just need a second.

Tomov: Now.

Later

Jack Nesbitt: Casey, just give him what he wants.

Outside the club

Antonio Dawson: Shots fired!

Hank Voight: Come on, move!

Jack Nesbitt’s strip club

Hank Voight: Clear the rest of the building! Casey! Casey, take it easy! Take it easy! Easy! Take it easy! Is there anyone else here?

Casey: No. No, just these two… They killed Katya.

Antonio Dawson: We know. What did they want?

Casey: A notebook. She gathered information on the whole operation.

Hank Voight: All right, where is it?

Casey: Here at the club somewhere. I guess she hid it. I don't know.

Hank Voight: All right, we got it from here.

Casey: Okay.

Hallway

Officer: Ma'am, what are you doing here?

Dawson: Uh, I'm sorry, I'm... I'm... I'm... Matt?

Casey: Hey.

Dawson: Matt!

Casey: I'm okay. I'm okay.

Dawson: Okay?

Casey: Okay.

Officer: Okay, let's get the lieutenant outside.

Casey’s memories

Katya: I've been trying to find a way to stop them. They talk in front of me. I have everything written down.

Tomov: Where is it? Where is it!

Katya: We're not telling you anything.

Casey: Katya!

Casey and Severide’s apartment

Severide: Hey, you know, Chief would understand if you decide to sit this shift out. I think everyone would.

Casey: New candidate starts today. I gotta be there. Anyway, I'm good.

Severide: Heard you pacing around last night.

Casey: This thing isn't over till they find Katya's notebook. I'll relax then.

Severide: All right. Hey, anything you need, let me know.

Firehouse: Boden’s office

Severide: Hey, Chief.

Boden: Come on in, Kelly.

Severide: Chief Riddle. How are you?

Ray Riddle: Very well, Lieutenant. Thank you.

Patterson: Dallas Patterson.

Severide: Yeah, I think we met at Boden's wedding.

Patterson: Yeah.

Severide: Good to see you… So what's going on?

Boden: Chief Riddle's got some news.

Ray Riddle: The high rate of turnover here at Squad 3 has raised a red flag at headquarters. In just three years, you've gone through Vargas, Mills, Clarke, Hadley, Newhouse, Mills again, and most recently, your friend, for whom you vouched, Scott Rice.

Severide: Each one of those men had a different situation. Family issues, injuries...

Ray Riddle: But they had one thing in common, Lieutenant: your leadership.

Severide: You're really gonna hold me accountable for all those men?

Ray Riddle: Severide, a decision has been made. We're stripping you of your rank.

Severide: What?

Boden: I'm really sorry, Kelly. I disagree with this, but... It is happening.

Ray Riddle: Captain Patterson will be taking over command of Squad 3. Effective immediately.

Patterson: But I'd like you to remain with the company. Your reputation as a firefighter is not in question.

Severide: No, just my ability to lead.

Boden: It's a lot to take on board, Kelly… Why don't you give us a minute?

Firehouse: kitchen

Herrmann: How's Casey doing? We're worried about him.

Dawson: He's... You know, he's dealing with... I don't know. We haven't talked.

Otis: Do we bring it up if he doesn't?

Herrmann: Mm. Maybe best to just ignore the subject altogether.

Mouch: Better make up your mind. Here he comes.

Casey: Guys. Relax.

Herrmann: We're just glad that you're all in one piece, that's all.

Casey: Let's just get one thing straight right off the bat: I'm fine. It was a rough couple days, but I'm here just like the rest of you, to work. Understood?

Herrmann: Yeah.

Mouch: Copy.

Otis: Got it.

Brett: Yeah.

Casey: Where the hell is our new candidate?

Herrmann: Mm-mm.

Otis: Candidate's late on his first day?

Mouch: Now that takes gumption.

Casey: The important thing is, Dawson isn't candidate anymore. Congratulations, firefighter.

Mouch: Way to go, Gabby.

Herrmann: Ah, no leash on the pit bull anymore. Bring on the fires.

Dawson: Yeah, bring 'em on. You okay? You haven't said a word since this all...

Casey: Gabby, I'm fine. Really.

Dawson: Okay. Okay.

Chili: Hey. Did you guys hear about Severide?

Firehouse: garage

Tony: Yeah, and I'm Tony.

Patterson: Good to meet you, Tony. Captain Dallas Patterson.

Tony: Welcome.

Casey: Hey… I just heard. You okay?

Severide: Yeah, never better.

Casey: I don't know what to say.

Severide: There's nothing to say. It's nuts.

Outside the firehouse

Danny Borelli: Whoo!

Casey: What the hell's going on?

Danny Borelli: Got a special delivery for you. Fresh from the CFD stork. Come on, buddy… Hoo! Good luck with the new candidate, fellas.

Herrmann: And the Moron of the Year award goes to...

Borelli: Ah! Oh, man. What a show, huh? It's not my idea. Danny, he's a, uh... He's a real piece of work.

Casey: Chief... Meet our new candidate, Jimmy Borelli.

Borelli: Oh, Chief. I was just tellin' them that, you know...

Boden: You been drinkin'?

Borelli: No, sir, on my honour, I haven't touched a drop.

Boden: Hmm.

Borelli: Danny was pouring beer on me in the back. I... I told him, though, not to.

Boden: Go home, Borrelli. And don't come back to 51.

Borelli: Sir...

Chili: I gotcha… I'm Chili.

Main: Ambulance 61, female in distress, Racine El Station.

Brett: Bummer.

Racine El Station

Officer: Armed robbery on the El. Poor kid got the crossfire.

Chili: What's your name, hon?

Alicia: Alicia.

Brett: See an entry wound, right upper chest. I don't see an exit.

Chili: This is gonna help you breathe.

Alicia: The baby! It's a boy.

Later

Alicia: He's gonna be okay, right?

Brett: We'll make sure.

Ambulance 61

Chili: Hang in there, Alicia. We're almost there. Just keep looking at me, okay? Alicia, you hear me?

Alicia: Yeah. I'm having a baby. A boy. Ah, the baby has to come out now!

Chili: Brett, call Med. Her contractions are coming in fast. This baby's on its way.

Brett: Chicago Med, this is 61. Our pregnant woman with a GSW is about to deliver. We're six minutes out...

Alicia: How do I keep him inside? He's pressing on me!

Chili: Brett, she's crowning. I can see him.

Brett: We're too far out from Med. Let's deliver here.

Chili: Okay. Call it in.

Brett: 61 to Main, we're delivering on scene. Request additional ambulance at Loomis and Congress.

Chili: We're gonna take good care of you, Alicia. We promise… Come on, Alicia, just one more push. He's almost here.

Brett: Come on, Alicia. We can do this. Just one more nice, strong push, okay?

Alicia: Okay.

Chili: I got him.

Alicia: Wait, why isn't he making any noise?

Brett: Come on, breathe… Breathe... Breathe for us... I got a pulse. It's bradycardic but it's there.

Courtney: What we got?

Chili: Neonate, mother's a GSW in shock.

Courtney: We got it. We'll take it from here.

Brett: She's coding! It's not working!

Chili: Okay, you drive, I'll get an airway going.

On the road

Chili: Come on, Alicia.

Brett: We're three minutes out.

Chili: Come on, don't give up. Don't give up! Come back, Alicia. Don't stop fighting. Come on.

Brett: We're almost there.

Chili: No, come on!

Brett: Chili, what's happening?

Chili: Come on… Damn it!

Firehouse: Boden’s office

Severide: The only reason why Riddle was up in everybody's business all of a sudden is because he thinks he's got a shot at making Fire Commissioner. Everybody knows that.

Boden: I don't like it either, but he is not wrong about the turnover rate of Squad 3.

Severide: So you agree, I'm the problem.

Boden: That is not what I said.

Severide: Is that why you brought in your poker buddy to take over my job?

Boden: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey… Careful. I chose him because I knew he wouldn't hurt the team. In the meantime, I am gonna bat for you as best I can… I have convinced Riddle to reassess your rank further down the road, provided you complete some management training.

Severide: "Leadership Hub of Chicago presents: Getting Troubled Managers Back on Track." This is a joke, right, Chief? This is how you go to bat for me?

Boden: You have to register for that today.

Severide: You know, Chief, I'll take the damn course, I'll take it and I'll get my bugle back, but I don't know that I can stay here and work under Patterson.

Firehouse: hallway

Severide: Whoa. You guys all right?

Brett: Uh, just a... Just a bad run.

Chili: Young mom got shot by a stray bullet, but she didn't make it. We delivered her baby, but we have no idea if he's gonna make it either… Little guy had cute little tiny fingers, like he was supposed to play piano or something… Stuff happens, so, what can you do, right?

Later

Chili: I mean, we made the right call, didn't we?

Brett: We never would have made it to Med in time… It was the right call… Okay.

Chili: You did good.

Firehouse: dormitory

Casey: You got bad news.

Antonio Dawson: First up, how are you doing?

Casey: Fine. Find Katya's notebook yet?

Antonio Dawson: Can't even look for it. FBI's been working the same case for months. We had no idea.

Casey: Look, I don't really care who gets the arrest. I just want to make sure that guys like Nesbitt and his buddies are brought to justice.

Antonio Dawson: That's the thing… Nesbitt was in the lockup less than 15 minutes before some Special Agent from the FBI Chicago field office escorted him out the door. Apparently, he's been working as a confidential informant for the feds.

Casey: You mean, Nesbitt is out on bail?

Antonio Dawson: Nesbitt walked. He's a free man. And there's not a thing we can do about it.

Firehouse: garage

Cruz: It's a raw deal, Severide. No two ways about it.

Capp: You gotta fight this thing.

Severide: Fight what? It's done. All I can do now is try to work my way back up.

Deliver guy: Looking for Squad 3.

Cruz: Who ordered Lou Malnati's?

Patterson: There it is… And...

Deliver guy: Thanks, man.

Patterson: Ahh. Oh, smells great… Dig in, guys… Mm… Now that's good.

Cruz: If there is anything better than Chicago deep dish, I don't know what it is.

Patterson: That's 'cause you haven't had my barbecue. Tell you what, tomorrow night I'll have you guys out to my boat, kill two birds. We get to know each other a little better, you get to eat the best barbecue in the city.

Severide: Hmm.

Patterson: You didn't finish your slice.

Severide: You can eat it. I gotta go register for that seminar. Be back in 30.

Casey’s memories

Katya: You're working with the police? Matt, this is good. I didn't know who to trust.

Firehouse: Casey’s room

Dawson: Hey, Matt, you got a minute?

Casey: What is it?

Dawson: What's wrong?

Casey: Sorry. Your brother was just here… That piece of garbage Nesbitt was informing for the feds. He's gotta be playing both sides. He feeds the feds information in exchange for amnesty, but keeps profiting off of the trafficking ring. I mean, why would he out me to the Bulgarians unless he wanted to get rid of me?

Dawson: So the FBI's involved?

Casey: Yeah. No word yet on whether or not they found Katya's notebook… She died trying to bring down that ring… And it's all for nothing as long as the feds are putting their trust in Nesbitt… Sorry, what... What did you... What did you wanna say?

Dawson: It's no big deal.

Casey: You sure? You called me Matt, not Lieutenant.

Dawson: I was just worried about you. I wanted to make sure you were okay.

Casey: I'm fine, I just... Can't stand around here doing nothing… Tell the guys we're going for a ride.

Seminaries’ building

Severide: Hey, um... I'm here to register for the... The...

Register guy: Have a seat and go ahead and fill that out. Both sides.

Waiting room

Severide: Uh, hey, could I... You got a pen I could borrow? Thank you.

Jamie Killian: What are you in for?

Severide: It's just a mandatory thing. I work for the city.

Jamie Killian: Yeah, I would hope so.

Severide: What about you?

Jamie Killian: I threw an 1,100-page brief at an office window… It didn't even break the glass. Jamie Killian.

Severide: Kelly Severide.

Register guy: Okay, welcome to "Getting Troubled Managers Back on Track." First class is tomorrow. Through this intensive six-week course, we're going to iron out those leadership wrinkles and help get you back on track. First, a little bad news. Looks like we're short on workbooks, so, why don't we all take a minute to find a buddy.

Jamie Killian: I got ya, buddy.

Truck 81

Casey: Sit tight. I'll make this as quick as I can.

Dawson: Good luck.

Jack Nesbitt’s strip club

FBI Agent: Hey, whoa, this is a crime scene. How'd you get in here?

Casey: I have a key. I'm here to pick up some tools I left in the new room.

FBI Agent: Conway? The fireman's here.

Casey: What's that son of a bitch doing here?

Jack Nesbitt: Matt, give me a chance to explain. I tried to save Katya, Matt. She was my friend too. I'm sick about what happened.

Conway: Back up, Lieutenant. Back up.

Casey: He outed me and nearly got me killed.

Main: Truck 81, Squad 3? Engine 51, Battalion 25.

Casey: Send my tools to Firehouse 51.

Main: Structure fire, 2604 West 24th Street.

Parking

Dawson: Uh-oh. What happened?

Casey: They can tear the place apart looking for that notebook, but I bet you anything Nesbitt's already got it.

Truck 81

Casey: Let's roll.

On the road

Otis: Hey, this is no stove fire.

Herrmann: Ah, it's your favourite kind of fire, Dawson… A big one.

Otis: Oh, what the hell?

Casey: Hey, hey, move these cars. We've got a house on fire.

Woman 1: Let it burn!

Street

Casey: We need these cars moved now.

Herrmann: Who owns these cars? Which one of these is yours?

Woman 2: I'm not telling you.

Woman 3: We don't need you, go back! Let it burn.

Patterson: 81, what the hell is this?

Casey: Yeah, I'm getting to the bottom of it now. What's the problem here?

Woman 3: It's a drug den. We want it gone. The city won't do anything about it, so just let it burn.

All: Yeah!

Boden: Open up this street.

Casey: Fire's at an alleged crack den. Residents want it to burn down.

Boden: Truck 81, Squad 3, open up this street by any means necessary.

Patterson: Copy that, Chief.

Boden: I need Engine and Truck outside that house, right now. Hey, hey, hey! It is against the law to interfere with an emergency response.

Woman 3: We don't need you here.

Woman 2: We won't move.

Woman 3: We don't need you today.

Woman 1: Not moving anything, not today!

Casey: Herrmann, Mouch, grab irons and follow Boden.

Dawson: You want us to try and bounce one of the cars out of the way?

Casey: No, grab a chain. Let's tow 'em out.

Dawson: On it.

Severide: Hey, one of these cars belong to you?

Man 1: Never seen any of 'em before.

Patterson: Enough of this. We're gonna plow right through them.

Severide: Whoa, hold on, Patterson. You'll wreck my Squad.

Patterson: Whose Squad?

Dawson: Hey, that's good, Casey. That's good… Easy there, big guy.

Man 2: No, wait... Don't... No!

Patterson: Road's open, 51.

Outside the house

Boden: Fire Department, call out! Red X building, no one goes inside.

Casey: Fight this one from outside. Mouch, Herrmann, get the aerial in place.

Mouch: Casey! There's someone inside! Second floor, front, left window… There was movement, I saw it.

Casey: How sure are you, Mouch?

Mouch: 80%.

Boden: Okay, get in there. Don't take long.

Casey: Otis, Dawson, evacuate next door before the wind shifts. Herrmann, with me.

Patterson: Severide, Cruz, go with them.

Otis: Dawson, let's go.

Porch

Otis: Fire Department.

Dawson: There's a... There's an old guy in there. Hey! Open up! You need to evacuate!

Otis: Man, this whole neighbourhood’s crazy. Okay, want the honours?

House

Otis: Hey, Fire Department.

Dawson: Hello, Fire Department. Your house could go up at any minute. We need you to come with us.

Carl: I'm not going anywhere!

Dawson: All right, I'll go up and get him. You see if there's anybody else down here.

Otis: Yep.

Dawson: He... Hey, come on now… Listen, you're very close to an out-of-control fire. I mean, the radiant heat alone could ignite your house.

Carl: You've got no right to come into my home.

Dawson: Okay, what's your name?

Carl: Carl.

Dawson: Hi, Carl. I'm Gabby. Smoke's no good in here for you, yeah? Let's go outside, get some fresh air.

Carl: I don't need your help.

Street

Chili: Get an IV going. I'll try to get an airway.

Brett: Uh, I'm never gonna find a vein. I'll have to drill.

Chili: Don't bother. It's no good.

Herrmann: You happy now? Is that what you wanted?

Boden: Herrmann.

Herrmann: He was a human being. You people make me sick.

House

Otis: What's the holdup?

Dawson: I'm working on it. Come on, Carl. I'm sorry. I'm sorry you feel like nobody's looking out for your neighbourhood, but we're here now.

Street

Boden: Everybody careful. The roof is going.

Casey: Dawson.

Boden: Dawson? Otis? Reports.

House

Casey: Gabby.

Dawson: I'm okay. Everyone's okay.

Casey: Come on. We got you.

Street

Dawson: Here it is. Watch the step.

Chili: I got him… How you feeling? Is anything hurt?

Carl: No. You saved my life.

Dawson: You wouldn't have needed our help if your neighbours hadn't blocked the street.

Severide: Yeah, what the hell were they thinking?

Carl: They just wanted to be rid of that blight on our neighbourhood. They meant well.

Firehouse: cloakrooms

Herrmann: Close one.

Dawson: Yeah.

Herrmann: You okay?

Dawson: Yeah, I'm fine.

Herrmann: Something's going on.

Dawson: Really, I'm okay.

Herrmann: Casey talk to you at all since this whole thing went down?

Dawson: Uh, no. Nothing really. He's handling it in his typical way.

Herrmann: By not handling it.

Dawson: Yeah, I suppose.

Herrmann: Yeah… Well, he'll come around when he's ready… Just be there for him when he comes out the other side.

Dawson: Of course.

Herrmann: Put in for a new one. That one's toast, literally.

Firehouse: garage

Patterson: Hell of a call. Nice work, gentlemen.

Cruz: Thanks, Captain.

Patterson: See you at the boat tonight?

Severide: Nah, I appreciate the invite, but I got a bunch of class work for tomorrow, so...

Patterson: Well, it's a mandatory event… See you all there.

Cruz: Hey, man, look, I'll get a good case of IPA. We'll drink ourselves overboard, huh?

Severide: Yeah. Sounds like a plan.

Cruz: Yeah.

Firehouse: Boden’s office

Boden: What is this?

Danny Borelli: Yo, Chief Boden. Danny Borelli. Jimmy's big brother. I'm over at Engine 67. Listen, uh, Jimmy told me about the whole misunderstanding earlier...

Boden: Misunderstanding?

Danny Borelli: Yeah, we were just hazing him. We didn't think it'd be a big deal...

Borelli: Look, Chief, the long and short of it is, is that I blew it. I got nobody to blame but myself, I...

Danny Borelli: Jimmy, the Chief and I are talking.

Borelli: I just wanted to apologize for disrespecting you like that. I... I am truly sorry. You deserve much better from a new candidate… Come on, Danny, let's give the Chief his office back.

Danny Borelli: That's it? That's your big speech?

Boden: You be here one hour before next shift. Not a minute later. You will not get another chance.

Borelli: I'll be here two hours early and the floors will be mopped… Thank you, Chief.

Boden: Good… That was a good shift, Dallas.

Patterson: Thank you, Sir.

Boden: So, how's everything going with Severide?

Patterson: Well, he's handling it. Better than I probably would.

Boden: Hmm.

Patterson: Don't beat yourself up, Chief. It's an awkward situation for all of us. It's up to Severide to find his place in the mix. Or not.

Boden: Yeah, I suppose.

Connie: Sorry to interrupt, Chief, but you're gonna want to see this.

Patterson: Everything okay?

Boden: Neighbours from the 24th Street fire, they're accusing us of slow-walking our response because they're a low-income neighbourhood.

Patterson: That's laughable.

Boden: Yeah. CFD seems to be taking it seriously.

Molly’s

Antonio Dawson: I know Casey's worked up, but he's making things worse. You gotta tell him to stay out of it.

Dawson: Well, I'm not his keeper, okay? You tell him.

Antonio Dawson: Whoa. Whoa.

Dawson: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm just kinda wiped out.

Antonio Dawson: What's going on, Gabby?

Brett: I need to know if that baby survived, Chili.

Chili: We just gotta keep assuming that he's okay. Hey, it is possible that he's totally fine.

Brett: You really believe that?

Chili: Yeah. I mean, it's possible… Not knowing makes it possible… Hey, I'm gonna get us another round, okay? Hey, Dr. Halstead.

Will Halstead: How's it going, Chili?

Chili: I got a favour to ask.

Otis: Hey, what can I get you folks?

Ian: Uh, we just moved in next door.

Otis: Oh.

Ian: Just wanted to stop in and say hi.

Otis: Hey.

Ian: I'm Ian Bailey Johnson. This is my wife, Athena...

Athena: Hi.

Ian: Bailey Johnson.

Otis: Uh, Her... Herrmann. The new neighbours are here. Uh, I'm Brian. This is Christopher. Meet Ian and...

Athena: Athena.

Otis: Right.

Herrmann: Hey, welcome. We're big on neighbours around here. Where you from?

Ian: Uh, Portland, Oregon.

Otis: Oh.

Herrmann: Yeah. Wow. Welcome to Chicago.

Athena: Thank you.

Herrmann: You're gonna love it here. Best city in the world. Uh, so, um...

Athena: How late does Molly's stay open?

Otis: 2 A.M.

Athena: Ooh.

Ian: Wow.

Otis: Uh, but... Regular bar hours.

Athena: And is it always as boisterous as it's been the last few weeks?

Otis: Uh, has the noise been bothering you guys?

Athena: Yeah.

Ian: It has, actually.

Ian: We've got a newborn, so...

Athena: He's a real crier.

Ian: Yeah. Yeah.

Herrmann: Oh, no. Well, we've got a sign out front that says, you know, "Please Respect Our Neighbours." Usually people are pretty good about it. Not too rowdy.

Otis: Um, can we offer you guys a drink on the house?

Athena: Uh, not for me 'cause of the breast feeding, but do you, maybe...

Ian: No, no. We just, uh, wanted to say hi.

Herrmann: Okay.

Ian & Athena: Hi.

Athena: Have a good night.

Herrmann: Portland.

Casey and Severide’s apartment

Severide: Coming! What's up, Cruz?

Cruz: What happened, man? We got worried about you when you didn't show up to Patterson's boat… Oh. That's why you blew off the barbecue. We thought it's because you decided not to come back to Firehouse 51.

Severide: I have.

Cruz: Hey. Look, man, I know Patterson isn't exactly...

Severide: It's not Patterson. It's just... Bad situation.

Cruz: Severide, the whole reason that I worked my ass off and trained for squad was because I wanted to learn from you… You go, I go.

Severide: Aw, come on, man. Don't be stupid.

Cruz: Just think about it. Okay?

Chicago Med: NICU

Brett: Oh.

Firehouse: Casey’s room

Connie: Lieutenant?

Casey: Hey.

Connie: Gabriella Dawson put in for a new turnout coat. I just need you to okay it.

Casey: Thanks.

Molly’s

Otis: Hey, Lieutenant.

Herrmann: Hey.

Dawson: Matt.

Casey: I need to talk to you… What happened at the club, when that guy put his gun to my head... I've been spinning out, trying to make sense of it. I guess.

Dawson: Matt...

Casey: And then at the fire, when the roof went and you were inside... All that matters is that you came out alive. Because here's the thing: being with you, that's what makes sense… May be the only thing that does… I don't ever want to let you out of my life again.

Dawson: I'm pregnant.

Casey: Oh.
