Chicago Fire

Casey and Dawson’s apartment

Dawson: What are you doing, babe?

Casey: Nothing. Packing.

Dawson: It's 3:00 in the morning.

Casey: This is a guest room. It's going back to being a guest room.

Dawson: You know, Louie's dad didn't... Didn't want that stuff. You gonna take it to Goodwill?

Casey: I said I'm boxing it. I didn't say I'm getting rid of it.

Dawson: Okay… I'm gonna go back to bed.

51 kitchen

Kidd: Hey, Kelly. How's Anna feeling?

Severide: Night and day.

Kidd: Well, you got high-octane bone marrow. How are you?

Severide: Eh, little sore.

Kidd: God, does he ever stop whining?

Cruz: Never.

Herrmann: Son of a bitch… We got a rat.

Dawson: Seriously?

Herrmann: Yeah, he got in the Raisin Bran. Got in the oatmeal.

Casey: What is it?

Otis: Rat got into the cabinets, Lieutenant.

Casey: Maybe if this place wasn't such a dump...

Mouch: I don't think...

Casey: Hoover duty in the kitchen and common room. Top to bottom... Every crack and crevice. Throw out all the outdated food and polish every surface… I'm not messing around. On it. Now.

Radio: Ambulance 61, person down. 300 North Central Park Avenue.

Dawson: Garfield Park?

Brett: I think so.

Garfield Park

Security Guard: It's a student on a school trip. Says she can't get up.

Dawson: Watch your back, guys. Look out.

Teacher: On the bus, Darla said her stomach hurt. We thought she was carsick. But when we got inside, she buckled over.

Brett: Hi, Darla, honey, can you tell me where you feel the pain?

Darla Thompson: My back... And my stomach.

Dawson: I'm Gabby, and this is Sylvie. We're gonna take care of you, okay?

Brett: Can you roll on your back, sweetie?

Darla Thompson: It hurts so bad.

Dawson: Any tenderness?

Darla Thompson: It's on the inside.

Dawson: Uh, we're gonna need all the students out of this area.

Teacher: Okay. All right, guys. Follow me... Now. Trisha!

Dawson: Darla. You're having contractions.

Darla Thompson: What's that?

Dawson: Honey, do you know you're pregnant?

Darla Thompson: What? What? I can't be pregnant.

Dawson: Can't's got nothing to do with it. You are, honey. Brett, we got to transport her.

Brett: Yeah. Come on, sweetie.

Darla Thompson: Okay. Oh, no, no, no. No, no! Oh! Ugh!

Brett: What are you feeling, Darla?

Darla Thompson: It's... It's like pressure down there.

Brett: Okay. All right. Turn over on your back for me, sweetheart… This baby's on its way.

Darla Thompson: Oh, my God.

Brett: I'll get the OB kit.

Dawson: It's okay, honey. We're good at this, I promise. Done it lots of times.

Darla Thompson: My dad's gonna kill me.

Dawson: We're here for you. We'll talk you through every step, all right? Now let's worry about you, all right?

Darla Thompson: Okay.

Brett: All right. Give me one good push, okay? Okay, stop pushing. Baby's breech… I'm gonna reach in and try and ease the baby's legs out.

Dawson: Okay, tough girl, let's do this. Get ready to push again, okay?

Darla Thompson: I'll try.

Dawson: Good. On three... One, two, three.

Darla Thompson: Why isn't it coming?

Dawson: You're doing great. Let's try again. Gentle push... Nice, easy breaths.

Brett: Okay, the baby's shifting. This is our shot. Got one leg. Two of 'em.

Dawson: Got a little girl on the way. Just keep it up.

Brett: I've got her to her shoulders, but... Gabby, the head isn't coming.

Dawson: Okay… You need to reach in with your hand... Create an airway for the baby till the next contraction so she doesn't suffocate.

Brett: Okay.

Dawson: Girl, I know how tired you are. But this is it, right here. Next contraction, I'm gonna need you to push with all your strength, okay?

Darla Thompson: I can't. I can't.

Dawson: Hey, you are strong. I know it.

Darla Thompson: I ca...

Brett: Okay, this it.

Dawson: Here we go, Darla, now! Come on, come on, give me all you got!

Brett: Yes, yes, yes! All right, the head's out.

Dawson: Okay, we got her. We got her.

Brett: Thank you… Come on.

Darla Thompson: Is she... Is she okay?

Dawson: See for yourself.

Darla Thompson: No way. Hi.

51 kitchen

Kidd: I'm confused. Am I supposed to see my face in this kind of surface or not?

Herrmann: Just keep polishing.

Otis: Does anybody notice that Mouch cleans things at eye level and eye level only?

Mouch: And that is why I have perfect posture.

Herrmann: Hey, Casey, we're almost done here.

Casey: Come on, guys. Move the refrigerators, pull out the stove. You know how this works.

Kidd: Casey, that's third shift's locker.

Casey: They've got a bunch of old peanut butter cups that are attracting rodents. Get 'em out of here. Come on! Do it half-assed, you have to do it a second time. Do it right, or do it again.

Otis: No, we're on it, Lieutenant.

Casey: Good.

Herrmann: Hey, uh, Lieutenant. Is there something you want to get off your chest?

Casey: Yeah… Get to the hardware store and buy every rat trap and poison they have. Or send Otis. I don't care. Just get it done.

Herrmann: Sure. But if you want to talk, I'm...

Casey: I'm good.

Chicago Med

Dawson: The nurses will bring the baby in after they do all the standard exams.

Darla Thompson: Okay.

Charles Thompson: My God, Darla. Are you okay? Is she okay?

Darla Thompson: Daddy...

Brett: Uh, she's fine. She just had a bit of a scare.

Charles Thompson: What the hell's going on? They s... They said you had a baby?

Darla Thompson: Yeah. I didn't know. I thought I was sick.

Charles Thompson: How could you let this happen?

Darla Thompson: I'm sorry.

Dawson: Sir, your daughter's really exhausted right now.

Charles Thompson: This is none of your business.

Brett: Okay, Dawson, we should go.

Darla Thompson: Look, I... I know I messed up, but, Daddy, you have to see this baby.

Charles Thompson: You have no business raising a child, Darla. You can barely take care of yourself!

Dawson: Hey! Don't talk to your daughter like that. She needs your support right now, not your judgment.

Charles Thompson: Do you have any idea what you're getting in the middle of here?

Brett: Dawson.

Charles Thompson: Everyone always knows best but me, right? You, your... Your friends at school, these people… You want to keep the baby? Then go live with your Aunt Therese.

Darla Thompson: What? No, Dad...

Nurse: Mr. Thompson, let's go for a walk. Calm down.

Charles Thompson: No need. I'm leaving… Don't come crawling back to me when all the boys at school move on to the next easy girl. You have humiliated me enough.

Dawson: Hey... He didn't mean that. He's just in shock is all.

Darla Thompson: Yeah.

ER

Severide: Ladies.

Brett: What's up?

Severide: Fuelling up the rig, thought I'd swing by, check on a patient. You?

Brett: Uh, delivered a surprise baby. The girl's father didn't take it so well.

Severide: Oh. You okay?

Dawson: Yeah, I'm fine. I'm a people person.

Hallway

Anna: I know what you're up to. You heard that I was up and about, and you figured I'd be wearing my hospital gown, open in the back, and get a little peep show.

Severide: You figured it out.

Anna: Yeah, well, too bad for you, this robe's from Grandma Turner, and it stays firmly in place.

Severide: Does your nurse know that you're wandering the halls?

Anna: Yeah, she made me. Says I have to be "ambulatory" in order to get me discharged.

Severide: When you out of here?

Anna: Mm, they're vague. Maybe at the end of the week. I think they like to keep it a bit of a mystery.

Severide: That soon?

Anna: Yeah.

Severide: Then what?

Anna: Home is calling.

Severide: That's great.

Anna: Yeah.

Severide: Could you pick up the pace?

Anna: Shut up.

Severide: Slowpoke.

51 hallway

Herrmann: Hurry up, hurry up, hurry up... Get it off.

Otis: I'm trying if you'd just stop moving.

Brett: Hm, couldn't resist the cheese, huh?

Herrmann: You try setting that medieval contraption.

Casey: Hey. You okay?

Dawson: Lousy call.

Casey: Not under the console, Herrmann! Put it behind the trash can! What was the call?

Dawson: Never mind.

Casey: Gabby...

Dawson: I got to get supplies.

51 Garage

Severide: Hey, doesn't Truck carry a rabbit tool?

Kidd: Yep.

Severide: Then what the hell are you doing using this Stone Age technique?

Kidd: You're missing the point.

Severide: Okay.

Kidd: Point is, if I'm not over here drilling, then I think Casey wants me to clean the urinals. And I am avoiding that at all costs.

Severide: Anna was asking about you.

Kidd: Asking what?

Severide: I think she just wanted to say thank you... You know, for being there for me when I was laid up.

Kidd: I mean, I did that for you... Not for her.

Severide: You need a hand with that?

Kidd: Nope.

Radio: Truck 81, Squad 3, Engine 51, Ambulance 61. Structure fire, 3281 West Palmer.

3281 West Palmer

Boden: Is everybody out?

Rick Denton: I own the building.

Boden: I said, is everybody out?

Rick Denton: Well, nobody's seen Carly and her daughter. They live up in the top front unit.

Boden: We may have victims trapped upstairs. Let's do a primary search. 51, let's get a hose line in the first floor. Protect the stairway. Mouch, position the aerial.

Casey: Herrmann, Otis, Kidd... Let's go.

Herrmann: Copy that.

Severide: Cruz, with me.

Building

Casey: Fire department! Call out! Kidd.

Kidd: Yeah?

Casey: Let's check the basement.

Kidd: Yep.

Severide: We'll take the top floor.

Casey: Hey, Herrmann, Otis, take this floor.

Herrmann : Got it.

Otis: Copy that.

Basement

Casey: Fire started in the basement. We need a hose line down here, Chief.

Boden: Copy that.

Casey: Over there, Kidd.

Kidd: Fire department!

Casey: Fire department! Call out!

Eddie Owens: Help! Help me! Help! Get me out of here! My leg is stuck!

Casey: Okay, hold on.

Eddie Owens: God! Argh! Hurry up! I can't!

Casey: Hey, hey. Hey, easy! Sir, easy! I need you to relax. Can you pull your leg out?

Eddie Owens: No, it's stuck!

Kidd: Fire department! Call out!

Carly: Help! In here!

Boden: Fire's in the structure. You're running out of time.

Eddie Owens: Don't you leave me here!

Casey: I'm not going anywhere.

Eddie Owens: Argh!

Casey: Ready? Come on! Pull!

Street

Boden: I want everybody out of that building. Emergency! Evacuate the building immediately!

Building

Kidd: Lieutenant, I need help! Casey!

Eddie Owens: Hey! Hey! You get me out of here.

Boden: Come on, come on. Come on, I need everybody out of there.

Casey: Kidd!

Kidd: Lieutenant, I can't get 'em both!

Carly: Oh, my God. Please.

Boden: All units, report.

Eddie Owens: I will kill you, I swear. I will kill you!

Carly: Help! Help her!

Casey: I'll come back for you.

Eddie Owens: No! No! Noooo!

Street

Casey: Got her?

Mouch: Yeah.

Casey: I got one more inside. His leg's pinned. I just need someone to help me.

Boden: You see the colour of that smoke?

Casey: I know I have time, Chief.

Severide: I'll go with him.

Boden: Okay, one minute. Not a second longer.

Casey: Let's go.

Building

Casey: Hey... Stay back till I tell you it's safe.

Severide: What are you talking about?

Casey: He's got a gun… Fire department!

Severide: Casey! Careful, down! Let's go!

Street

Casey: Thanks.

Kidd: You okay, Lieutenant?

Casey: Should've been able to get him out.

Severide: Did all you could.

Kidd: And plus, you know, you saved a little girl.

Boden: Fire's knocked down. It's safe to go back in. Hey. A guy you're trying to rescue points a gun at you... You tell me right away.

Casey: You wouldn't let me go back in, Chief.

Boden: You're damn right I wouldn't.

Casey: Guys, let's go get him. Herrmann, grab a body bag.

Building

Casey: Severide. Give me a hand… The hell?

Severide: It's got to be the wrong spot, huh?

Casey: Nope. This is where he was.

Severide: Hey.

Otis: Lieutenant, you sure you're looking in the right place?

Casey: I'm sure.

Otis: It's just with all the smoke, sometimes...

Casey: This is the right place, Otis! I left him right here.

Boden: Casey… Take Truck 81 home.

Casey: Not until I find him, Chief.

Boden: 51 will finish the overhaul.

Severide: Squad'll stay too… Go ahead.

Herrmann: 81, pack it up.

Mouch: Copy.

51 Dormitory

Otis: Seriously, Mouch? A Charleston Chew?

Mouch: Any left?

Casey’s office

Severide: So we went through the wreckage, splinter by splinter... No body. We turned the scene over to OFI. They'll bring in search dogs, look for any traces of him... If you're saying there's still someone inside.

Casey: Well, I wasn't hallucinating, so yeah. That's what I'm saying.

Herrmann: Lieutenant?

Casey: Yeah.

Herrmann: Um, we got about 15 minutes left on, uh, shift. And we couldn't catch that rat, but the place has never looked more spic-and-span. So, ah... We're gonna wind it down.

Casey: Good.

Herrmann: You want to go get some breakfast and talk? I know losing Louie wasn't what...

Casey: I don't.

Herrmann: Okay. Psst.

Anna’s room

Anna: Stella.

Kidd: Wow. You look amazing.

Anna: Oh, you are... You are a terrible, terrible liar. It's gonna take a lot more bacon cheeseburgers before I'm back to my fighting weight. But they are gonna let me out of here soon.

Kidd: Good.

Anna: Um, I'm really glad you came by. I wanted to thank you for helping Kelly throughout all that madness. He said you were really there for him.

Kidd: Yeah, you know, he, uh... He's kind of helpless, so... I just... Figured he could use some backup.

Anna: Can I ask you something? Are you and him... Are you guys together?

Kidd: Uh, no… No, we're not.

Nurse: Anna, we need to...

Anna: Yeah, yes.

Kidd: I'll... I'll get out of your hair.

Anna: Thanks for stopping by... And for everything.

Kidd: Yeah.

Casey and Dawson’s apartment

Casey: When we went to the spot on overhaul, no body... Nowhere… And this is in the basement, Gabby. So where'd he go?

Dawson: Maybe things shifted when the roof came down and took the pressure off his leg. I mean, you know as well as I do, weird things happen in fires.

Casey: And then what, he just walked out the front door and no one saw him?

Dawson: I don't know… Guess you just got to chalk it up to one of those things.

Casey: I just... Just feel like I'm losing my mind.

Dawson: I'm gonna run out for a bit.

Chicago Med

Nurse: Dawson, this is Therese, Darla's aunt.

Dawson: Oh, cool. I was just about to check in on your niece.

Nurse: This is the medic Darla was telling you about.

Therese: I heard about how you talked to her father.

Dawson: Yeah, well, he wasn't being very supportive.

Therese: Charles raised that girl himself. Did you know that? His wife walked out on them when Darla was just a baby... Moved to Miami, never came back. That man has put up with more than you will ever know… He's blaming himself for all this, but he did the best he could for her. Took a demotion so he could be home when she got out of school. Coached every soccer team, showed up for every school play… So maybe before you judge him for not being supportive... Maybe you should try to see this shock through his eyes.

Dawson: I... You're right.

Therese: I'll let Darla know you stopped by.

Boden’s office

Boden: OFI has closed their investigation of the West Palmer fire. No human remains were found anywhere inside.

Casey: Okay.

Boden: But there was this: "A small hatch was discovered in the basement leading to the alley on the west side of the structure. It is possible that the unaccounted for victim escaped the fire through this hatch."

Casey: Did they figure out who the guy is?

Boden: No identifying items survived the fire. Building residents didn't know anyone fitting his description... Didn't know anyone living in the basement at all, for that matter.

Casey: Weren't there some guns left behind?

Boden: ATF trace led to a private dealer. No paper trail. That's not unusual.

Casey: He would've been burned, Chief... Severely. Why didn't he come to the medics for help?

Boden: Casey. The man pulled a gun on you. He was squatting in the basement. You are trying to attach rational behaviour to this man. You aren't gonna find any. Point is, he's alive. You don't have to worry about him anymore.

Casey: Thanks, Chief.

Boden: You're welcome.

Hallway

Herrmann: I know you want the apparatus floor cleaned, and we're all over it.

Casey: Tell 81 we're going for a ride.

Rick Denton’s office

Casey: Excuse me. Rick Denton?

Rick Denton: Hi, there. You looking for an apartment?

Casey: No. My name's Matt Casey. I'm a lieutenant with the CFD.

Rick Denton: Oh, I see.

Casey: I wanted to ask you about the man living in the basement at 3281 West Palmer.

Rick Denton: There's no basement unit in that building. I know there was a report of a victim being trapped down there, but, uh, I can tell you, there's nobody living in that basement.

Casey: Well, I saw him. Now, I'm not trying to get you in trouble. If you were renting to him under the table...

Rick Denton: What? Wait, are you accusing me of, uh...

Casey: I'm just trying to find out who he is… Mr. Denton, I want to find this man and make sure he's okay. I feel responsible. I had to choose between him and a little girl. As a firefighter...

Rick Denton: I don't know who he is. If he was squatting, no one told me. All right? And that's the last thing I'm gonna tell you or the cops or anyone else who comes by. Now if you'd excuse me, I have some work to do.

Thompson’s porch

Dawson: Mr. Thompson… I just need five minutes of your time. I'm sorry to bother you… Please.

Thompson’s house

Dawson: I apologize for the way I talked to you at the hospital.

Charles Thompson: I did everything I could for that girl, and... I don't know where I blew it.

Dawson: Kids do stupid things, Mr. Thompson, no matter how they're raised. I see it every day… But whatever happened or whoever messed up, you're still her father... The person she loves and respects the most.

Charles Thompson: Honestly, I, um... I don't know what to do.

Dawson: Listen... I'm lucky enough to know how it feels to hug my own child and tell him that everything's gonna be okay… And how I remember it... It's the best feeling in the world… So do that for your daughter, for your granddaughter, for yourself. Because, these moments... You don't get a whole lot of time before they're over, you know.

Anna’s room

Anna: Hey. I thought I wasn't gonna see you till after your shift.

Severide: I know.

Anna: What, are you, like, afraid I was gonna leave without saying goodbye or something?

Severide: No.

Anna: What's going on?

Severide: Don't go back to Springfield.

Anna: Why not?

Severide: Come on, you feel it too… There's something here… Stay in town a while. There's great doctors here. I'm here. Let's figure it out.

Anna: You know, you've only known me as, like, this sick girl laying in a hospital bed. That's not me… This... Is me.

Severide: I know… That's who I always saw there.

Radio: Squad 3, can you take a medical assist at 2175 West 18th Street?

Severide: Yeah, uh, copy that, main.

Anna: They're gonna discharge me at 10:00 a.m.

Severide: I'll be here.

2175 West 18th Street

Severide: What's the story, guys?

Paramedic: Guy called 911 from this address. Says he cut his leg with a saw. But nobody's answering, and we can't get inside.

Severide: Hey, Capp, why don't you check the back there and see if there's another way in?

Capp: Copy that.

Severide: Cruz, see if you can peek inside.

Cruz: Tony, give me a hand.

Back

Cruz: Hey, grab an end… Guy bleeding. Got to get in there now.

Severide: All right, Cruz, Tony, get back here. Hey, Capp, what do you got back there?

Front

Capp: Steel door back here, locked tight.

Severide: All right, come up around front. Tony, grab the rabbit tool.

Cruz: Looks like he severed his femoral artery. We might be too late.

Paramedic: Hey, you get us in there, we'll be able to help him.

Severide: Ah, it should've popped by now. There's probably a surface bolt on the inside. Damn it!

Cruz: Tony, you get another hose.

Tony: I'll steal one from the jaws.

Severide: Hey, we don't have time. Grab me that Halligan… Tony… All right, give me a hand, guys. Ready? Go!

Building

Paramedic: All right, one, two, three… Come on, come on… I got a pulse!

51 garage

Severide: Stone Age technique saves the day.

Kidd: Yeah?

Severide: I had to marry Halligans to pop a door.

Kidd: While I wasn't there to mock you. Such a shame.

Severide: Timing's everything.

Kidd: Yeah, it is.

Severide: Hey, did I ever thank you? For being there for me when I was laid up?

Kidd: Yeah, you did. I mean, you had a concussion, so I just assumed that you were delirious. But... Yeah.

Cruz: So Casey's still making you spit polish the place, huh?

Otis: Non-stop.

Cruz: Ugh. Well, if you guys want some extra practice after shift, I got a few closets that you can go over at home.

Otis: Ha ha.

Herrmann: You know what? Enough is enough.

Casey’s office

Casey: Okay, thanks for checking. I'm calling hospitals and urgent care facilities to see if they had any walk-in burn patients in the last few days. So far, no luck.

Herrmann: All right, Lieutenant, if you don't mind my saying...

Casey: I do mind, Herrmann.

Dormitory

Herrmann: Uh, no, you're gonna shut up and listen. Pardon my French.

Dawson: Everything okay here?

Casey: Yeah, Herrmann was just about to tell me what's bothering him about me.

Herrmann: You know what? You both need to listen, what with all these bees in your bonnet, all right? That young girl's situation with the baby, you know, you cleaning house, and looking for this John Doe... Something bad happens, and we try to exert control. But sometimes, it is better to live with the pain for a little while… Process it, you know? Losing Louie was a real blow… There is no harm in admitting that to yourselves… I'm gonna leave you two to it.

Casey: Herrmann... Tell the guys to put the supplies away and order some barbecue... On me.

Herrmann: Yeah.

Thompson’s porch

Darla Thompson: Oh! Gabby!

Dawson: Hey. We, uh, just... We just wanted to drop off some things we thought the baby might be able to use.

Darla Thompson: Oh, wow, thank you.

Dawson: Oh, sorry, this is my husband, Matt.

Casey: Matt. The boy who had these loved them. I'm sure your daughter will too.

Darla Thompson: Um, Gabby, that's what I named her… Gabby.

Dawson: Can I... Can I hold her?

Darla Thompson: Oh...

Charles Thompson: Absolutely. Come in, come in.

Anna’s room

Severide: Hey, sorry, I'm looking for Anna.

Orderly: Uh, discharged about a half hour ago… She left that. Maybe you can get it to her.

Herrmann est un homme en or avec le coeur sur la main, toujours à l'écoute et de bons conseils, il sait apaiser les tensions rien que par sa présence laughing
