13x06 – Birds of Prey

Bedroom

Carver: Tori.

Tori: What?

Carver: I gotta get to work. But I can drop you at home.

Tori: Where are we?

Carver: This is, uh, what's-her-name's place, right? Um, from the bar.

Tori: Oh. Yeah, um, Mia.

Carver: Can't believe we crashed here.

Tori: Yeah, I don't exactly remember making that decision either.

Carver: Man, I feel like hell.

Tori: Well, maybe you should go back to bed.

Carver: That would be a bad move. My shift's about to start... You coming?

Tori: No way.

Carver: Okay. See you tomorrow.

----------

Firehouse: garage

Mouch: Whoa! Ah... Gah! Ah! What the hell? Back! Why are you doing this? Ah!

----------

Firehouse: common room

Novak: It's kind of a romantic story, meeting at a stabbing scene. Flynn in his undershirt, you in your paramedic pants.

Violet: Right?

Novak: Okay, so now I need full details on the date. How was he?

Violet: Well, the date was fun, but if I understand your question correctly...

Novak: You do.

Violet: Then I don't have an answer for you. It was classic "getting to know each other" kind of stuff... Daytime, coffee shop, and a park.

Novak: I don't see how any of that makes a difference. I've had sex in all of those places.

Violet: Oh.

Novak: You know, you can be very traditional.

----------

Mouch: Oh.

Ritter: Hey, what's wrong, Mouch?

Mouch: I just got attacked.

Violet: What? By who?

Mouch: By a deranged bird.

Ritter: You were attacked by a bird?

Capp: What kind of bird?

Mouch: I don't know what kind of bird, Capp.

Tony: Probably a pigeon.

Mouch: Well, whatever it was, the vicious little monster just kept coming at me.

Ritter: Uh, according to the National Audubon Society, birds only attack humans if their young are being threatened.

Mouch: This was an unprovoked assault. And any one of you could be next.

Dispatch: Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambulance 61, structure fire.

Mouch: Don't say you weren't warned.

Dispatch: 1623 South Ashland.

----------

Firehouse: truck 81

Kidd: Where the hell is Carver?

----------

Firehouse: bunk room

Kidd: Carver! Bells! Let's go! Come on.

Carver: Sorry, Lieutenant.

----------

Street

Pascal: Squad, you're with Engine 67, third floor. Truck, clear the rest of the building. Stay alert. Who knows what's inside there? Let's knock this thing down right away.

Kidd: Copy that. 81, primary search. Let's move.

Severide: Squad, grab the K-12 now. Let's move.

Tony: Copy.

----------

Building: hallway

Severide: Fire Department! Call out! Hey, Chief, we got several units rolling up here. Tell 67 to hurry up...

----------

Building: hallway / street

Pascal: Squad 3, report.

Severide: We're good. We need that line!

Pascal: Coming your way.

Lieutenant: Squad 3, Engine 67. We're almost there.

Severide: Hey, you guys hit it. We'll check the other units... Squad 3, let's move.

Pascal: Run another line in there. 76, I need you coming in from the south. Secure a hydrant and stretch a hose to 3.

Lieutenant 76: Copy.

----------

Street

Pascal: Hey! Back up. You can't park here.

Quinn: I got a call from the alarm company.

Pascal: You work here?

Quinn: What happened?

Pascal: We don't know. Is someone inside?

Quinn: No, we don't open for a few more hours. I'm the only one with keys.

Pascal: Park over here. We might need you later. All units, be advised the business is closed and confirmed vacant, but continue primary search.

----------

Building: hallway

Severide: All right! On three. One, two, three!

Kidd: Fourth floor all clear.

Severide: Second floor clear. The fire's jumped a few units on two, but we're on it. Capp, keep moving.

Capp: Copy.

Severide: On three. One, two, three. Tony, open all units!

Tony: Copy!

Severide: Capp, you stay with me! We finish our primary search. You take that way. Keep on your radio.

Capp: Copy that!

----------

Severide: Fire Department! Call out! Fire Department! Call out!

Ryan: Help!

Severide: Fire Department! Call out!

Ryan: Over here!

Severide: Got a male victim, breathing, conscious. Bringing him down the Bravo stairway. Let's get you out of here.

Pascal: Copy that.

Severide: Come on. Watch your step. Keep your head down.

----------

Street

Severide: I got you. Took in a lot of smoke.

Violet: Okay. Let's check his oxygen levels.

Novak: What's your name?

Ryan: Ryan.

Severide: What the hell were you doing in there, Ryan? I thought the place was closed.

Ryan: I got evicted. I'm staying here while I figure things out... It's cheap.

Violet: Oof, let's get him to Med.

Severide: You know what caused the fire?

Ryan: Space heater I was using? I don't know.

Novak: Sorry.

Violet: Okay, ready?

Novak: Yeah.

----------

Pascal: Squad, you can pick up. Truck, you're on overhaul with 67.

Kidd: Copy that, Chief.

Severide: Actually, Chief, is it all right if we cover it? Got a tip about a space heater in one of the units. Want to poke around and see if it was the cause.

Pascal: You good with that?

Kidd: As much as I love overhaul, it is all yours.

Pascal: I'm gonna be with the facilities manager if anything turns up.

Severide: Yep.

----------

Firehouse: garage

Kidd: Does Carver seem okay to you?

Ritter: He's dragging a little, in some kind of mood. But maybe he's just run down.

Kidd: Hmm.

----------

Ritter: That's the bird that attacked you?

Mouch: It's plotting another ambush. I can feel it.

Ritter: Maybe she just flew into you by accident this morning.

Mouch: Repeatedly?

Ritter: It freaked you out, right? That probably freaked her out more. Yeah, it could just all be a miscommunication.

Mouch: Yeah. Well, maybe you're right. I mean, why would a bird have it out for me anyway? It makes no sense.

Ritter: Exactly... See? Nothing to be afraid of.

Mouch: Huh... Oh! Ah! No, no, no, no!

Ritter: Whoa!

Mouch: You see? You see it now?

Ritter: Man, that thing really hates you.

----------

Firehouse: Pascal's office

Pascal: You wanted to see me, Chief?

Kidd: Have a seat.

Pascal: I'm curious about the status of your rig.

Kidd: The status?

Pascal: Yeah, you've had Ritter on Truck for a couple of shifts. Haven't gotten an update from you. Tell me how it's going.

Kidd: Ritter is great. The transition has been seamless. It helps that he's been on Truck before, so he knows the drill...

Pascal: I'm not just asking about Ritter. I'm asking about the team. You add a new firefighter to the rig, you change the whole dynamic of the group.

Kidd: This is the strongest team that I have had yet. Feel confident about that.

Pascal: Glad to hear it... That'll be all.

----------

Firehouse: common room

Kidd: Carver.

Carver: What's up, Lieutenant?

Kidd: After everything that happened with Damon, and Pascal having me under a microscope, there's no margin for error for me or for you.

Carver: There will be no more screw-ups.

Kidd: Good.

----------

Building: storage unit

Cruz: Paint cans. "Danger, highly flammable."

Tony: Hey, Severide, you're gonna wanna see this.

Severide: You find that space heater?

Tony: No, something else.

----------

Building: other storage unit

Tony: I don't think these are toys.

Severide: Damn... These are 3D-printed, and with magazines that can hold real bullets. There's no serial numbers. Untraceable, illegal... These are all ghost guns.

----------

Street

Severide: So we don't have any footage?

Quinn: Nothing. Looks like the security feed cut out as soon as the fire started.

Pascal: Thanks for your help.

Severide: Why'd they send the Staties?

Robert Bishop: You the CO here?

Pascal: Yeah, Chief Pascal... This is Lieutenant Severide. He's the one that found the locker.

Robert Bishop: I'm Captain Bishop. This is Sergeant Grayson. Any idea how the fire started, Lieutenant?

Severide: We rescued a victim who says he's been living in a unit on the fire floor. Thinks that a space heater may have caused it.

Grayson: So it was an accident then?

Severide: Can't say until we do a proper investigation.

Robert Bishop: Where's the victim now?

Pascal: Chicago Med. He suffered burns and smoke inhalation.

Robert Bishop:You have a name? Description?

Severide: White male, 40s, medium build. First name Ryan. Didn't catch the last name, but you can pick that up at Med... I can walk you guys up there, show you guys where...

Robert Bishop: No, that's not necessary, Lieutenant. Thanks for the help, but we got it from here.

Pascal: Um, I don't understand, Captain.

Robert Bishop: We can't let anyone back inside. That unit you opened, it's part of a complicated ongoing investigation.

Severide: Maybe you guys haven't noticed, but we have an ongoing investigation here also.

Robert Bishop: I hear you, Lieutenant. And I hate to pull rank on you fellas, but we've got 18 months and a whole lot of blood, sweat, and tears invested in this case. We can't risk you tainting our crime scene just to confirm one more transient fire in the city.

Severide: Well, like I said, we don't know that it's a transient fire.

Pascal: Easy, Severide, easy.

Severide: Come on, Chief, we have every right to be in there and investigate this scene right now.

Grayson: Go ahead and try it. It won't be the first time I put a firefighter in bracelets.

Severide: For what?

Robert Bishop: Look. We all got a job to do. But these scumbags are gonna keep flooding our streets with untraceable firearms until we nail their asses to the wall. And we're this close... You've got my word. We'll do everything we can to get that fire scene back to you ASAP. Right, Sergeant?

Grayson: Yes, sir.

Robert Bishop: There's no reason we can't all get what we want.

Pascal: Let's move out.

Robert Bishop: Okay. I'll be in touch.

----------

Firehouse: common room

Ritter: That bird is definitely targeting Mouch. And I have to say, it seems personal.

Mouch: Well, if she wants war, she'll get war.

Violet: What do you mean by that?

Mouch: I'm calling animal control.

Tony: Don't do it, Mouch. If they take down the nest, she'll abandon her clutch.

Mouch: Believe me, Tony, I am doing the city a favor. That unholy freak of nature should not be allowed to reproduce.

Capp: Why not try a peace offering first? Lay some breadcrumbs out. Make friends with it.

Tony: Bread's terrible for birds. I have some birdseed in my car, though.

Ritter: Why do you have birdseed in your car, Tony?

Tony: I do a little birding now and then. I'll bring in my binoculars next shift for you, Mouch.

Mouch: Uh, yeah, hi. I am calling to report a vicious animal. Oh, I would definitely say it's an imminent threat to humans. I'm sorry, Tony, but I have a line, and that bird crossed it... Yeah, I'll hold.

----------

Firehouse: Pascal's office

Severide: You wanted to see me?

Pascal: Have a seat... You got pretty short with those Staties on the scene, one of whom is a higher rank than you.

Severide: Fire investigations are hard enough as it is. Putting a hold on it could make it almost impossible.

Pascal: And that's your thing, fire investigations?

Severide: Yes, sir. I went through the ATF's arson program, did a bunch of federal cases.

Pascal: And your dad specialized in arson.

Severide: He did. You knew Benny?

Pascal: Yeah, I knew of him. Next time there's a jurisdictional issue like that, if I'm there, just let me handle it.

Severide: Yes, Chief. Law enforcement does like to think they rule every scene.

Pascal: When I was in Miami, PD handcuffed one of my guys because they didn't like where we parked the rig. I found that it's easier, if possible, just to not piss them off... Chief Pascal... Appreciate it, Captain. Thank you... Bishop just released the scene. What do you know? A man of his word. Head over there. Check it out. Keep me posted.

Severide: Copy that, Chief.

----------

Firehouse: common room

Violet: I've never had pineapple and mayo before.

Novak: Oh, you're gonna love it... Look at you.

Violet: Oh. Yeah, Flynn is just fun. He's not afraid to be kind of a goofball, you know? And added bonus... He is not a first responder.

Novak: Mm.

Violet: He has been planning this secret date for us, and I am racking my brain trying to figure out where it is.

Novak: Oh, I love secret stuff.

Violet: Well, he has been taunting me with emoji clues all day.

Novak: Hmm, a castle... Oh, I hope it's not some sort of Renaissance dinner thing.

Violet: Ooh, I would not be entirely opposed to that.

Novak: Hey, Carver. You want a sandwich?

Carver: No. Thanks.

Novak: He didn't even ask what kind.

Violet: Yeah, and he hasn't made eye contact with me all shift.

----------

Building: storage unit

Severide: There's our space heater... This didn't start the fire. This thing melted from the outside in... What the hell?

Tony: What is it?

Severide: Well, everything else here is either burnt, melted, or covered in soot. But this? This is clean. There was something here.

Tony: Staties take it?

Severide: No one else would have gotten in. They didn't say anything about removing any evidence from this unit... What the hell are those troopers up to?

----------

Robert Bishop's office

Pascal: Afternoon, Captain.

Robert Bishop: Oh, this is a surprise. How can I help you guys?

Pascal: My lieutenant just got back from the fire scene at the storage facility.

Robert Bishop: Ah. Glad you were able to get in so quickly.

Pascal: And we appreciate that. There is an issue.

Severide: Yeah, we're missing some evidence from a storage unit we believe the fire may have started, which isn't the same as the unit where your ghost guns were located.

Robert Bishop: I didn't hear anything about that.

Pascal: We just want to be able to do a clean investigation.

Severide: And if we knew what went missing from the ignition area, that would help.

Robert Bishop: I'll look into it... Just give me a day or two. I got a couple of rookies. One of them probably got a little too enthusiastic.

Pascal: Things do happen that are out of our control.

Robert Bishop: They do... You know, I'm surprised we haven't met before, Pascal. I know all the fire chiefs in my area.

Pascal: I just got back to Chicago. I've been in Miami about 10 years.

Robert Bishop: Miami? I'm a big fan of that city, huh? You know, the beaches, cigars... Well, if you were Miami Fire and Rescue, then you must know Chief Hendricks.

Pascal: I do know Hendricks. Solid guy. Small world.

Robert Bishop: Hey. You and me, we got to have a meal sometime, Chief Pascal. Sounds like we run in the same circles.

Pascal: Sounds like we do.

----------

Building

Severide: Hope he gets back to us about that evidence.

Pascal: Any reason to think he won't?

Severide: I think he was pretty quick to dismiss missing evidence as no big deal.

Pascal: Well, if we don't hear back, we'll stay on him.

Severide: Well, I'm gonna go talk to the victim of that fire. He's probably still at Med. That space heater is not what started it. Maybe he can give us some insight.

Pascal: Let me know what you hear.

----------

Mini golf

Flynn Calhoun: Okay, I thought for sure the pencil emoji would give it away, no?

Violet: I definitely did not see mini golf coming.

Flynn Calhoun: Okay, if you think you're hiding the disdain in your voice, you think wrong.

Violet: Oh, no disdain. This is a really fun idea in theory. But, Flynn, I'm going to let you in on a little secret about women.

Flynn Calhoun: I feel like my life is about to change.

Violet: We don't like mini golf. This is a guys' thing.

Flynn Calhoun: Hmm. I think you're afraid of getting your ass kicked.

Violet: Oh, it's like you're looking into my soul.

Flynn Calhoun: I'm happy to give you a handicap.

Violet: Oh, you seriously think I'm going to lose?

Flynn Calhoun: Have you ever played?

Violet: No, but I have excellent to perfect hand-eye coordination, Flynn.

Flynn Calhoun: You are a very charming person.

Violet: So are you... Okay, so what kind of handicap are we talking about?

Flynn Calhoun: I'll go left-handed.

Violet: Okay.

Flynn Calhoun: And I'll give you a stroke at every hole. And yes, I realize how that sounds, but those are actual golf terms.

Violet: If you say so.

----------

CMED: ER

Kidd: You and I got different definitions of a night out.

Severide: This won't take long... Uh, Nancy. Hey, uh, Ryan, the victim that we brought in last shift, do you know what room he's in?

Nancy: Oh, I do remember your medics bringing him in, but once they left, he refused treatment. Left against doctor's orders.

Kidd: Did you get his last name?

Nancy: He didn't check in. You know how it is when someone's uninsured, can't pay the bills.

Severide: Any police stop by looking for him? State troopers?

Nancy: No. That, I would have heard about... Sorry I don't have anything for you.

Severide: Okay. Thanks for the info... If this guy was a witness at their crime scene, why wouldn't the Staties want to talk to him?

----------

Street

Violet: No surprise. Turns out I am amazing at mini golf, and I beat Flynn so badly, he just stopped keeping score.

Novak: Let me guess. He hasn't returned your calls or texts since.

Violet: As a matter of fact, he asked me to surprise him and choose the location of our next date.

Novak: And still no action?

Violet: Still no action.

Novak: Hmm.

----------

Outside the firehouse

Novak: Hey, what's up, Mouch? That bird still bothering you?

Violet: Yeah, what happened with animal control?

Mouch: Well, they refused to take action... Some kind of policy against disturbing a brooding female.

Violet: Whew.

Novak: Wish we had that at 51.

Mouch: Apparently, the inmates are now running the asylum. And you wonder why this city is descending further into lawlessness every day.

Violet: So what are you gonna do about it?

Mouch: Well, it is time for me to take matters into my... Oh!

Dispatch: Ambulance 61, person down from unknown causes.

Novak: Okay.

Dispatch: 563 West Jackson.

----------

Park

Novak: Is this the right place?

Violet: I am not sure. Hey, ambo 61 to main. You got any more information on... Oh, nope, never mind. We got them... Did you call for a medic, ma'am?

Celine: Yes, it's for my husband. He's... It's okay, Larry. Show them.

Larry: Oh, uh...

Violet: How did this happen, Larry?

Celine: He recently had abdominal surgery.

Violet: Uh-huh.

Larry: I've been cooped up. I needed to get outside. I have allergies. And something tickled my nose, and I kept sneezing and sneezing.

Celine: And he burst his stitches.

Violet: Yeah. Okay, let's start an IV. Larry, we're gonna give you something for the pain. I want to make sure you're comfortable before we get you over to the ambulance. Do you have any allergies to medications?

Larry: I don't think so.

Celine: But his surgeon gave him hydrocodone.

Violet: Good to know. I'm gonna give you a low dose of fentanyl, all right? Here you go.

Novak: Pushing fentanyl... This will help.

Violet: Okay. Uh, Novak.

Novak: Mm-hmm?

Violet: I think there is way too much evisceration to manually reduce. So I say we just wrap him up and get him to Med.

Novak: Agreed.

Violet: Okay.

Celine: Here... Here it comes. Try pushing your tongue to the front of your teeth.

Violet: Okay, wet sterile pads right away. Larry, I'm gonna give you some diphenhydramine to stop the sneezing, okay?

Larry: Okay.

Violet: It's gonna burn going in, but only just for a moment, all right?

Larry: Oof.

Novak: All right.

Violet: You got him?

Novak: Yeah.

Violet: Larry, lean up for us real quick.

Larry: Okay.

Violet: It's okay. All right. Almost there, Larry. Here we go. Okay. Great. Let's get you into the stair chair... All right, Larry. Ready? Here we go.

Larry: Yeah.

----------

Street

Tori: You owe me.

Carver: I know it.

Tori: What's so important about this thing, anyway?

Carver: She's been on my case since I slept through the bell. So if she noticed that I forgot it, things would go south fast.

Tori: I don't know how you stand it here. The way everybody's always up in each other's business?

Carver: It's fine. I can manage.

Tori: I know you can. I just don't know why you'd want to. Wouldn't it be nice to work someplace where you actually feel appreciated, instead of judged all the time for every little thing? You know, any firehouse in Austin would kill for a guy like you.

Carver: Look, right now, I just need to get through the rest of this shift, so we can head out for a drink and relax.

Tori: Sounds like a plan.

----------

Firehouse: garage

Capp: What's going on, Mouch? You got a crazy look in your eyes.

Mouch: This ends now.

Tony: Aw, come on. Leave the poor thing alone, will you?

Capp: Is that an egg?

Mouch: It must have fallen out of the nest and landed in these bags. It's a miracle it didn't break.

Tony: No, no. Don't touch it. If you get your scent on it, the mother might reject it.

Mouch: Well, we can't just leave it here. It'll get stepped on or run over.

Capp: Oh, so now you care.

Mouch: Of course I care. I'm not a monster, Capp. I'm a human being.

Tony: Well, I guess there's only one option, then.

Mouch: Yeah, you're right. Just gotta hope for the best, I suppose.

Tony: Don't worry. It's not so hard taking care of a hatchling.

Mouch: I'm not taking care of a hatchling, Tony... I'm gonna leave it in Mother Nature's hands.

----------

Restaurant

Robert Bishop: Are you sure you don't want a beer? I'm buying.

Pascal: No, I'm still on shift.

Robert Bishop: Understood. We made our arrest in the ghost gun case today. Took down the whole ring.

Pascal: That's a major bust.

Robert Bishop: Yeah. Big thanks to your team for knocking down that fire before the storage unit got destroyed.

Pascal: Ah, we were just doing our job.

Robert Bishop: I don't know. Firehouse 51 is in my neighborhood, so if I ever fall asleep with a lit cigar, you better be doing your job that day.

Pascal: Yeah... So where are we at with the evidence from our fire scene?

Robert Bishop: Oh, I wanted to give it back. Trust me. But when I asked the DA, she looked at me like I had two heads. She needs it to put the criminals away.

Pascal: Hmm. That's interesting. My understanding was the evidence was in a separate unit from the guns.

Robert Bishop: Well, maybe things got moved around during the fire. I've seen it happen before.

Pascal: Do you know what that evidence actually was? Even that information could help.

Robert Bishop: I'll get those details for you.

Pascal: That'd be great... What are the odds we both know Chief Hendricks?

Robert Bishop: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, we go way back, Hendricks and me. I used to go to him with questions if my case involved fire. And he'd come to me for help with his investigations... You know, teamwork like that can really come in handy when departments work together.

Pascal: Couldn't agree more.

Robert Bishop: You and I keep working together, we'll get a clean conviction on our gun case. A win like that will save countless lives.

Pascal: And that's the goal.

Robert Bishop: Hey, I'm... I'm glad you feel that way, Dom. 'Cause the thing is, your guy, Severide, he doesn't seem to understand the situation like we do. Maybe you could explain the whole "teamwork" idea to him? Huh?

----------

Firehouse: Kidd's quarters

Kidd: That may be the grossest thing I've ever heard. You gotta love that about the job, though. It's something new every day.

Violet: Still, I'm not gonna be eating dinner tonight.

Kidd: Question.

Violet: Okay.

Kidd: You have any idea what's going on with Carver? I know he had the blow up with the girlfriend at your party.

Violet: Mm-hmm. No, I'm... I'm not exactly sure. I've decided to stay out of it, which seems to be what he wants.

Kidd: Yeah, it's not just you. It's... It's like he's gone cold.

Violet: Yeah, icy, even.

Kidd: Yeah... Hey, have you picked a place to take Flynn yet?

Violet: Ugh, no. And I'm actually starting to panic about it.

Kidd: Wow, I am tanking this conversation. Uh, let's... Let's brainstorm. Okay?

Violet: Okay.

Kidd: Kelly and I had a great dinner the other night.

Violet: Okay, go on.

----------

Firehouse: Pascal's office

Severide: You never returned my call.

Pascal: What do you need?

Severide: I stopped by Med to talk with Ryan from the storage fire. He's in the wind. There's no trace of him anywhere.

Pascal: Can he really tell us anything we don't already know?

Severide: He's our only witness to that fire. At best, he could tell us something that helps us solve the case. At worst, he's an arsonist. We need to loop in Van Meter and get an OFI case started.

Pascal: No one was seriously hurt, and the property that was damaged is insured. I know you want to get to the bottom of every case, but I'm not feeling like this is a top priority. We're going to put it on the back burner for now.

Severide: I'm not letting this fall to the bottom of the pile.

Pascal: I wasn't asking that...

Severide: We need to hold someone accountable.

Pascal: Severide, I'm starting to get the feeling that you got a problem with authority. Or is it just me?

Severide: Neither, Chief. I just don't understand why you suddenly want this case buried.

Pascal: Lieutenant Severide, I said back off... That is an order.

----------

Firehouse: Kidd's quarters

Severide: Pascal completely bulldozed my investigation right after his dinner with Bishop. I don't know what this Bishop guy is up to, but he's covering something. And now Pascal is helping him do it.

Kidd: We still don't know much about the chief, do we?

Severide: No. But if he's getting into something shady, I'm not just gonna stand on the sidelines.

----------

Firehouse: bunk room

Ritter: Hey, Carver? You got a sec?

Carver: Not really, I was gonna try, and grab a shower before the next call.

Ritter: Okay. Yeah, I'll make it quick. The levels in your SCBA tank... You didn't change it out after the last call.

Carver: Of course I did. And who told you to go second-guessing my work?

Ritter: Our lieutenant. She asked me to check all the equipment, and instead of taking it to her, I came right to you... You know, as a friend?

Carver: Lieutenant, I am sure...

Kidd: Go home, Carver.

Carver: What?

Kidd: I will call a floater to finish out the rest of shift. And don't plan on coming back unless you get yourself together.

----------

Firehouse: entrance

Violet: You're a little bit early. Our next date isn't for another 13 hours.

Flynn Calhoun: Good morning. I know. Thing is, I have to cancel.

Violet: Oh.

Flynn Calhoun: I got assigned to a new case, and I have a feeling it's gonna be a late night. I wanted to tell you in person because with texts, it's so hard to tell the tone, you know? And I didn't want you to think I was blowing things off.

Violet: Hmm.

Flynn Calhoun: 'Cause I really like hanging out with you, Violet.

Violet: Well, this is perfect, actually, because this gives me more time to plan something as cool as mini golf.

----------

Firehouse: Pascal's office

Pascal: Not a good time, Severide.

Severide: This won't take long... You started acting differently once Bishop brought up Hendricks' name, like a switch got flipped. I couldn't figure out why... Then I did some digging... That wasn't easy to track down. Kept his name out of the press. Nate Hendricks was a fire chief in Miami before he got busted for his involvement in a drug trafficking ring. If Bishop and Hendricks are the type of guys you're used to running with, my firehouse is not the place for you.

Pascal: Bishop is dirty. You're right. Thought it was a little off when they got to that fire scene so fast. Then he brought up Hendricks. That's the real tell.

Severide: So why'd you steamroll my arson investigation?

Pascal: Do you think Bishop was gonna stand by and let you dig through his dirty laundry? He wasn't, and he made that perfectly clear.

Severide: So you were already on it?

Pascal: He's been feeling me out for days, trying to see if I was cut from the same cloth as Hendricks. I went to his internal affairs department, and tell you what, they already have a file on Bishop, just no hard evidence yet.

Severide: And you're helping them get it? So what do we do next?

Pascal: Well, there is, um, no "we" here, Lieutenant.

Severide: You think I'm gonna sit on the sidelines, knowing what I know?

Pascal: You can't breathe a word of this to anyone. According to their IA, Bishop doesn't shy away from violence, and he does not make empty threats.

Severide: I'm in.
