13x07 - Untouchable

Carver's apartement: bedroom

Tori: Hi.

Carver: Fun night?

Tori: Mm-hmm. You bailed just when it was getting good. We closed down the lounge, and then Jolene took me to Mike's Cop Bar. Have you ever been? It literally never closes.

Carver: Huh.

Tori: Wait, you're leaving already?

Carver: Yeah, I got to be in early. I told you that last night. I'm sure Kidd is still pissed at me for dragging last shift, so...

Tori: Kidd needs to chill... Sorry, I... I just... It sucks to see you like this. You're so stressed and keep cutting out early, missing all the fun.

Carver: I got to set things right with my boss, or I'm out of a job.

Tori: You can find another one.

Carver: You keep saying that, but I'm a firefighter, T. That's what I worked my whole life for.

Tori: Wow, you're in a mood.

Carver: Look, I just have to figure out how to balance everything better... It's not easy.

----------

Firehouse: common room

Violet: Hey. Any idea where the strainer is?

Novak: It's underneath the serving bowls.

Violet: Wow, remember when you were the new kid, asking all the wheres and whys?

Novak: Oh, barely... Hey, can we talk, like, paramedic to PIC for a minute?

Violet: Sure. What's up?

Novak: So Mathis, my friend at Milwaukee FD, was telling me about this "whole blood" program they just started.

Violet: Mm.

Novak: Have you heard about it?

Violet: Yeah, a little. Basically, paramedics carry around blood in their rigs to do transfusions in the field.

Novak: Exactly. If we had a program like that, we could stop people from bleeding out on the scene... Bad idea?

Violet: No. No, it's an amazing idea, and I love how fired up you are about it. It's just things like this are kind of above our pay grade... But, hey, if you're serious about this, then do the research. Figure out what it would take, see how other departments did it, and maybe we can bring it to Robinson.

Novak: Mm-hmm.

----------

Firehouse: Pascal's office

Pascal: Severide, this is Captain Vonn, Internal Affairs. So you've been surveilling him for a year and you still don't have enough to bring him in?

Sydney Vonn: Captain Bishop is very good at covering his tracks and tying up loose ends.

Severide: What about the ghost guns you found in that storage locker? If he was watching the police, and you were watching him...

Pascal: I told you, you can trust him.

Sydney Vonn: We know about the guns.

Pascal: Did any go missing?

Sydney Vonn: No, it was a clean bust. But we do have intel that Bishop was collecting a protection fee from the crew making them, and they recently stopped paying.

Severide: So he was out for revenge?

Pascal: Did Bishop pull a warrant?

Sydney Vonn: I'm not at liberty...

Pascal: Captain Vonn, do you want our help or not?

Sydney Vonn: No, Bishop did not have a warrant.

Severide: Why wait for a warrant when you can set the place on fire and have the CFD come pop the locks for you?

Sydney Vonn: Can you prove that?

Severide: Not yet. But we do have a witness, a transient that was almost killed.

Pascal: And if Bishop was involved, we can get him for attempted murder.

Sydney Vonn: If you think we can nail Bishop for arson...

Severide: We'd have to go back to the scene, get a closer look.

Pascal: Agreed, but don't loop in Van Meter or anyone at OFI. If Bishop thinks we backed off, let's just keep it that way. This stays between us.

----------

Firehouse: common room

Ritter: Oh, when is the lieutenant test, Mouch?

Mouch: Less than a week, and my blood pressure is steadily rising.

Ritter: You'll be fine. You've been studying for months.

Mouch: Yeah, mainly because I've never been great at taking tests. All I hear is the "Jeopardy" music running on a constant loop, worried I won't finish in time. But I got some practice tests, and the plan for today is timed trials.

Ritter: Well, let me know if you need any help.

Mouch: You don't have any beta-blockers, do you? My heart feels like it's running a marathon without me. You know what, never mind. I'll just grab some more coffee. That always calms me down.

----------

Firehouse: entrance

Carver: Lieutenant? I just want to say, I know my words have been pretty hollow lately, but I am grateful to be hereand I plan to show it.

Kidd: You'd better.

Dispatch: Truck 81. Ambo 61. Multi-vehicle accident.

Kidd: Let's go.

Dispatch: 630 South Archer.

----------

Street

Kidd: This looks like a minor fender bender.

Violet: Yeah.

Kidd: Let's just make sure no one got hurt.

Violet: Copy that.

Kidd: Carver, get all these people away from the ramp.

Carver: On it.

Ritter: Lieutenant? Cops just pulled up next to the rig.

Kidd: All right, I'll give them the lowdown. Safe off the perimeter. See if the medics need any help.

Ritter: You got it.

----------

Robert Bishop: Lieutenant Stella Kidd.

Kidd: Have we met?

Robert Bishop: Well, your reputation precedes you. I'm Captain Bishop.

Kidd: You guys got here pretty quick. Just right on our heels, huh?

Robert Bishop: We were in the area.

Kidd: Oh. Well, you don't need to shut down the off ramp, so...

Robert Bishop: Well, that's a relief. Diverting traffic's such a... Such a hassle. As if we're the bad guys here, you know?

Kidd: I should get back to the scene.

Robert Bishop: Of course... Thank your husband again for me... He was a big help in our investigation.

----------

Building

Severide: Has anyone been in here since we left?

Quinn: No, and I got a lot of angry customers who want to check out their stuff, but the insurance company has to come and take photos first.

Pascal: Police ever come back?

Quinn: Nope. What was in here?

Pascal: We'll let you know if we need anything.

Quinn: What a mess.

----------

Building: storage unit

Severide: There's the heater, though it wasn't the cause. This thing melted from the outside in.

Pascal: So the fire could have started in any one of these units.

Severide: No accelerants found, though there's plenty of fuel, cardboard boxes, bedding, locker full of paint. That right there is the missing evidence.

Pascal: Bishop was pretty determined to make sure we never got a hold of it, whatever it was.

Severide: Yeah, well, it's been working for him so far. No wonder he thinks he's untouchable.

Pascal: I've known guys like him. I knew one in Miami. It's not that they feel that they're untouchable, exactly. It's almost like they give their lives to the job and then feel that they're owed something more.

Severide: You talking about Chief Hendricks?

Pascal: People like that do a lot of damage. They hurt a lot of people.

Severide: It's Kidd... Hey, what's up?

----------

Building: storage unit / street

Kidd: Bishop just arrived on my call.

Severide: What? What did he say?

Kidd: Not much. He wanted me to thank you for helping out on his investigation.

Severide: Do you think he followed you there?

Kidd: It's possible. The wreck was right off the freeway, so it could have been legit. I don't know.

Severide: You okay?

Kidd: Totally. I don't know, I just wanted you to know... But I'll see you back at the firehouse.

Severide: Okay, sounds good.

----------

Building: storage unit

Severide: Guess who Kidd just met?

----------

Firehouse: common room

Cruz: Hey, as someone who almost took this test last year, you want my advice?

Mouch: I'm not sure almost taking it makes you a certified expert, but sure. I'm open to anything at this point.

Cruz: Okay, okay. Anyway... So, you know Murph? She teaches continuing ed at the academy.

Mouch: Yeah, sure.

Cruz: So normally, she charges $50 for this, but I'm going to give it to you for free.

Mouch: Did Murph sell you the answers?

Cruz: What? No. She teaches an hour-long course to help you prepare, but that has nothing to do with all of this.

Mouch: Doesn't Murph also sell Herbaworld on the side?

Cruz: Do you want me to share this with you or not?

Mouch: An hour, huh?

Cruz: You give me 10 minutes. If you hate it, we'll stop... Come on, what do you got to lose?

----------

CMED : ambulance parking

Novak: Yeah, great... Sorry, sorry, I know it's bad form to let your PIC pack up, but the Fly Boy guy gave me some serious intel on the whole blood program thing. You know they've had it in EMS helicopters for years?

Violet: I'm not surprised. They get all the good stuff first.

Novak: Well, he thinks it's criminal that we don't have it on ambulances yet. So he's going to send me an email with information, data they've collected, all the training they had to go through so I can put in my proposal for Robinson.

Violet: Okay, you're really doing this.

Novak: Oh, I am totally doing this.

Violet: Okay.

----------

Building: storage unit

Severide: Looks like the fire jumped a few units, spreading out in a V. You get any hits on a point of origin?

Pascal: No, the whole thing's soot-stained. One thing I noticed, though. Char pattern here. Does that make sense to you?

Severide: Well, whatever it is, it's not a clean burn... I don't see any vents on this side... That's how it jumped. Embers came through.

Pascal: Weren't the guns right next door?

Severide: Yeah, but that unit just got heat damage... This is just plywood. All the other walls are corrugated metal. This thing would have got eaten alive.

Pascal: Heads up.

Severide: Bishop needed those guns to make his bust. He couldn't have them burn.

Pascal: And he covered the vent with plywood?

Severide: Well, he must have had it treated with something to resist the flames... That looks like it could have been a five-gallon canister of fire suppressant to me, don't you think?

Pascal: Bishop screwed up, left it here, had to come back for it.

Severide: He doesn't seem like the type of guy to overlook that.

Pascal: Could have panicked. Fire makes people do strange things.

Severide: Or he had someone else do it for him.

Pascal: The guy you rescued doesn't really live here.

Severide: He was working for Bishop.

----------

Firehouse: Pascal's office

Sydney Vonn: Now you're saying Bishop didn't commit arson?

Pascal: Well, he's behind it. He just had somebody else light the match.

Sydney Vonn: We have to prove it was him, or this is all just a big waste of time.

Severide: So bring in the guy we pulled out of the fire. Maybe he'll talk.

Pascal: You bring the photographs we requested?

Sydney Vonn: These are from our surveillance on Bishop. All known acquaintances.

Severide: I'll remember his face.

Sydney Vonn: My boss wants me to move on. Says arson is pretty much impossible to prove.

Pascal: Not for him.

Sydney Vonn: If this transient was a suspect, why didn't you hand him over to police?

Pascal: Well, he presented as a victim, and fled from the hospital. We had no reason to believe that he had anything...

Severide: Here he is. This is Ryan.

Sydney Vonn: That's not his name.

Severide: It's the name he gave us.

Sydney Vonn: He's one of Bishop's criminal informants, Devin Staples.

Pascal: He's a snitch?

Severide: That makes sense. Bishop already has him under his thumb.

Sydney Vonn: Well, he shouldn't be too hard to find. We have all his information.

Severide: I want to talk to him.

Sydney Vonn: Good. Arson's not my specialty. And we need to convince him he's going back to jail if we're going to get him to talk. I'll be in touch.

----------

Firehouse: garage

Cruz: Great. Now, give me three more... Two... One. Great, okay, now 50 jumping jacks straight into it, all right? No rest.

Mouch: I'm sorry, Joe, but when does the actual lesson begin?

Cruz: This is the lesson, Mouch.

Mouch: No, this is cardio.

Cruz: And our job is physically and mentally demanding. Well, guess what? The mind, the body, they're interconnected.

Mouch: Are you about to try and sell me some Herbaworld?

Cruz: No, Mouch. The point is, exercising one strengthens the other.

Mouch: Well, it's a little late for all that. The test is in a few days.

Cruz: But you feel better, right? You're not as stressed now that the endorphins are kicking in.

Mouch: All I feel is a possible shattered disc and sweat in places that requires another shower.

Cruz: Mouch, please, come on. Just give me ten more minutes. I promise this will help.

Mouch: That's ten more minutes of valuable study time wasted.

----------

Firehouse: common room

Kidd: So putting someone's name in your phone is a relationship milestone now?

Ritter: Oh, yeah. Dwayne was still "Hot Cop" in mine till about a month ago.

Kidd: Yeah.

Tori: Hey, y'all.

Tony: Hey.

Tori: I brought you guys lunch.

Kidd: Oh, wow.

Tori: Soul and Smoke?

Capp: No way.

Tori: My manager says it's the best Texas-style brisket in Chicago.

Capp: Thanks, Tori.

Tony: I call dibs on the burnt ends.

Carver: Uh, didn't know you were coming by.

Tori: I wanted to surprise you. Figured you could always use more food. I know how hard y'all bust your asses around here...

Kidd: Mm.

Tori: Especially this one.

Kidd: Mm-hmm.

Tori: By the way, I just wanted to say I'm sorry for dragging him out of Molly's on Violet's birthday... We were just having a thing.

Carver: Tori.

Tori: It's fine now, though. You just had to work some stuff out.

Kidd: Well, thank you for the food.

Tori: You know, I feel like we're just kind of one of those couples, you know? Nothing's lukewarm with us. We're either fighting, or we're...

Carver: Yeah, I think she gets the picture, T.

Tori: Well, I just sort of get that same vibe from you and Severide, am I right?

Kidd: Not exactly.

Carver: Uh, those guys, you, uh... Feed them once, made a friend for life.

Tony: Wow.

Carver: Here, let me walk you out.

Kidd: See you, Tori. Thank you again for the food.

Tori: Yeah, no problem.

Capp: So good. Oh, what's that?

----------

Firehouse: hallway

Tori: You do know that the whole point of this was to have lunch with you, right?

Carver: You should have asked me first.

Tori: Okay, what is going on with you?

Carver: With me? What was that back there? Kidd isn't your... Your girlfriend. She's my commanding officer.

Tori: Well, maybe you need to stop putting her on such a pedestal and just let her get to know me...

Carver: This is... When I am at work, I have to be focused on work... I appreciate what you did, but I just can't afford to be distracted right now, okay? I'm sorry.

Tori: It's just funny, 'cause y'all were shooting the breeze when I walked in. Is that the important work you really need to focus on?

Carver: It's hard to explain to someone who's not a firefighter.

Tori: Yeah, don't bother.

----------

Firehouse: Kidd's quarters

Severide: Hey, I'm heading out. We just got word they brought in Bishop's CI.

Kidd: Great. Let's hope he knows where the bodies are buried.

Severide: You good?

Kidd: Yeah, I'll feel better once Bishop's charged. Is Pascal going with you?

Severide: Yeah, we're taking the lead in the room.

Kidd: You two, you've been attached at the hip the last few days.

Severide: Just trying to break the case. And he's really had my back through all this.

Kidd: Good luck.

Severide: I'll call you later.

----------

Firehouse: briefing room

Novak: Aww. Thanks, boss.

Violet: How's it going? Making any progress?

Novak: You know how much goes into setting up these programs? Each ambo has to be equipped with cold storage, fluid warmers, disposable circuits. It's like 6,000 bucks per ambulance, and that's not even factoring in the cost of training or the actual blood product.

Violet: Well, if other departments are using it already, why not us, right?

Novak: Yeah, but did any of them start with just one little ponytailed girl and a dream?

Violet: Hey, one ponytailed, nunchuck-whipping, whiskey-swilling girl. No, which is probably why they haven't made it happen yet.

Novak: Yeah. Slackers... What?

Violet: Flynn's great uncle just passed away, and he invited me to go to the funeral with him right after shift tomorrow.

Novak: Funeral date. Wow, that's a big move.

Violet: Right?

Novak: He is really laying all his cards out on the table, huh? He comes here to tell you how much he likes you, and now he's inviting you to an intimate family gathering?

Violet: I know. Meanwhile, I haven't laid any of my cards down.

Novak: Yeah. What's the deal with that? He seems like such a great guy.

Violet: I don't know. I just... I don't even know where to begin with my cards. Hey, uh, mark me for a three on the last hole, and, oh, by the way, I watched my boyfriend die right in front of me.

Novak: Yeah, I see your point... I'm sure you'll find your moment.

----------

CPD: interverview room

Pascal: Where'd you get the fire suppressant?

Severide: There's only a few places that sell canisters that size.

Pascal: Shouldn't be too hard to track down a recent purchase. You didn't use a credit card, did you?

Devin Staples: Man, I don't know anything about that. I was just sleeping there. I told you.

Severide: Right, but you did say a space heater may have caused the fire.

Devin Staples: Yeah, and it was on. And, I don't know, maybe it fell over.

Pascal: Fire leaves clues, Devin.

Severide: It's also unpredictable. You were able to keep it off those guns, but how could you know another locker had all that paint in it?

Pascal: Must have blown up like a bomb.

Severide: Then you got scared and ran, got lost in all the smoke.

Devin Staples: I didn't do it.

Severide: You were the only one in the building. It couldn't have been anyone else.

Pascal: You think Bishop's okay with you screwing up, leaving evidence behind? You think he's not going to come after you for that?

Severide: Look. Look at me. We know this wasn't your idea, okay? Just tell us what Bishop made you do.

Devin Staples: Do you have anything to hold me here?

Sydney Vonn: These men saved your life. Least you can do is answer their questions.

Devin Staples: But I'm not under arrest. So I can go, right?

Sydney Vonn: Yeah, you can leave whenever you want.

Severide: You think he runs right to Bishop? Tells him we're still investigating?

Pascal: Not a chance. You saw his face. He knows he screwed up, and Bishop might kill him.

Sydney Vonn: And now we are out our only witness.

----------

Firehouse: toilets

Novak: There you are.

Violet: What's up?

Novak: I'm working on my proposal for Robinson, and I was hoping I could send it to you later once I'm done-done to get your PIC perspective on it.

Violet: Yeah, whenever you're ready.

Novak: But don't go easy on me. I want brutal honesty.

Violet: Sadly, I don't know any other kind... Okay.

Novak: Whoa, hot mama.

Violet: Really? Okay.

Novak: Oh, hell yeah. You're going to slay at that funeral. I'm serious. You look drop dead gorgeous.

Violet: Okay, all right, I gotta go. I'm already late.

Novak: Knock 'em dead, girl!

----------

Firehouse: garage

Ritter: So apparently, I've been sleeping on Texas barbecue. That was insane.

Carver: It's that smoky flavor. Gotta cook it low and slow.

Ritter: Nice way to bring your home vibes to Chicago. Like you never left Austin.

Carver: Yeah, guess that's true... Uh, I can teach you how to smoke it yourself if you trade bunks with me.

Ritter: And be next to Capp, the loudest sleeper at 51? The sounds he makes are not human.

Carver: I know.

Ritter: What is that sound?

Kidd: I better be able to see my reflection in those blades!

----------

Funeral

Violet: Thank you. Love a mimosa.

Flynn Calhoun: I wouldn't get your hopes up. It's probably Asti Spumante and Tang.

Violet: I'm no snob... Mm... Is that lady wearing an ankle bracelet?

Flynn Calhoun: Oh, yeah, that's... That's Aunt Renatta. She just did a stint in Cook County for her third DUI. This is a motley crew you're consorting with.

Violet: Mm, well, it was a nice service.

Flynn Calhoun: Which is ironic, because Uncle Bing wasn't the nicest of folk. Probably died with a scowl on his face.

Violet: Speaking of dying, my last boyfriend died right in front of me on a call.

Flynn Calhoun: Oh, my God, I'm... I'm so sorry, I...

Violet: It... It's okay. It was a while ago now. I just... I wanted to tell you. I just didn't know how to. But I think I nailed it.

Flynn Calhoun: I'm glad you told me. That's... That's a big deal. And I totally understand if you want to keep things casual or take it slow. I mean, that's how I like to roll anyway, so...

Violet: Really? You think inviting me to a funeral is keeping things casual?

Flynn Calhoun: Yeah, no, but it can, starting now, if that's what you want.

Violet: When you're ready to head out, do you maybe want to come back to my place?

Flynn Calhoun: Let's go.

Violet: Okay. Okay.

Flynn Calhoun: Okay. Yeah.

----------

Pascal's house: kitchen

Monica Pascal: Oh, good. It's almost ready... Trying something new. Carbonara with Greek yogurt. I know... Won't be as good as your lemon pasta, and if it's terrible, we can order in.

Pascal: When did you get home?

Monica Pascal: I don't know, an hour ago? Oh, someone dropped that off for you.

----------

Pascal's house: bedroom

Monica Pascal: I'm not going anywhere until you tell me what the hell is going on.

Pascal: I just need you to stay at your sister's for a few days.

Monica Pascal: Why? What was in that envelope? This is Miami all over again. Well, who'd you piss off this time?

Pascal: I'm only trying to protect you. I'm not the bad guy here.

Monica Pascal: Oh, you never are.

----------

Illinois state police: hallway

Pascal: He came to my home.

Sydney Vonn: You're sure it was Bishop?

Severide: He stopped by a call, and he spoke to my wife.

Pascal: He's trying to intimidate us, let us know he can get to the people we love.

Severide: As you said before, he doesn't shy away from violence.

Sydney Vonn: We put a tail on his CI. If Bishop goes after him, like you said...

Severide: And use him as bait?

Pascal: Let's just use what we've already got, all that intel on kickbacks, ghost guns, imported cigars. Go get papers on this guy and bring him in... Right now, today.

Sydney Vonn: It won't do any good.

Pascal: Come on, you got to have something concrete.

Sydney Vonn: Like I said, he's smart. Covers his tracks so we can't get access to him... Burner phones, cash, all of it. And you saw his CI. Nobody's going to talk. They're all too scared.

Pascal: Bishop should be scared of us.

Sydney Vonn: We just need to keep building the case.

Severide: And how long will that take?

Sydney Vonn: Until we can make something stick.

----------

Street

Driver: Have a nice day.

Tori: Thank you.

Carver: There you are.

Tori: Did I miss curfew?

Carver: No... I just wanted to see you before I went on shift.

Tori: If you wanted to spend time with me, you could have come out last night. I invited you, remember? Even after you booted me out of the firehouse.

Carver: I know. I'm sorry... Thing is... I've been leaning on you too much.

Tori: I like it when you lean on me.

Carver: You picked me up when I was crashing hard back home.

Tori: We picked each other up. That's what we do.

Carver: That's what we used to do, for sure. I probably wouldn't have made it through high school without you.

Tori: Same... Sam, you and me, this is right. I know you can feel it too.

Carver: I do. It feels right because it feels like home... But maybe that's not such a good thing, you know? Home was a dark, messed up place for both of us.

Tori: The only messed up thing here is that the firehouse is the center of your life, and you keep trying to leave me out of it... Don't go into work today... Be with me.

Carver: I can't.

Tori: How did I know you were going to say that?

Carver: I'll be back right after shift.

Tori: Okay.

----------

Firehouse: locker room

Novak: You read it?

Violet: That's solid.

Novak: Solid?

Violet: Mm-hmm.

Novak: That doesn't sound good.

Violet: No, when I say solid, I mean solid. Like, amazing.

Novak: That's not what solid means.

Violet: Just take the compliment. It's great. And I don't know how you did it in two days.

Novak: Oh, you know, just by spending every second on it.

Violet: You know, it's obvious this really means a lot to you. It comes through on the page... So now all we got to do is get this at the top of Chief Robinson's to-do list.

Novak: You got any ideas?

Violet: Well, it's got to be something splashy, something she can't ignore. Say, I've got a couple ideas.

----------

Firehouse: hallway

Cruz: Hey, Mouch. Guess what I just found out about your test?

Mouch: Well, let me stop you right there. No more advice. I am sticking with the old-school study methods... Cramming, and a crippling fear of failure.

Cruz: No, it's not that. Fun fact... Since they changed the retirement age last year, you are about to be the oldest person in the CFD to take the lieutenants' test.

Mouch: Really?

Cruz: Yeah. Isn't that cool? It's like you're breaking new ground.

Mouch: Wow, a trailblazer.

----------

Firehouse: Severide's quarters

Kidd: Hey, have you seen the chief around? I got reports for him.

Severide: No, he's probably somewhere doing the same thing I am, looking for anything to take down Bishop.

Kidd: What are these?

Severide: Well, the CFD calls with Bishop's name attached. No surprise, another unsolved arson with his name on it.

Dispatch: Truck 81. Squad 3. Ambo 61. Garage fire. 5377 West Concord.

----------

Street

Robert Bishop: My car, it's on fire.

Severide: Truck, grab your extinguishers. Engine, stretch a line.

Robert Bishop: Can't you just soak it from here? How many guys do you need going in? Why does he have an ax?

Severide: You just stay out of the way.

Robert Bishop: Hey, this is my house.

Severide: Get back! Let's move.

----------

Bishop's garage

Tony: Ready?

Cruz: Good.

Severide: All right, 51, clear out! Engine, soak it down.

Firefighter: Copy that.

Severide: Fall back. We're good.

Robert Bishop: All right, get out. You're done. Now I've got fire and water damage.

Cruz: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, hey, hey. Take it easy, buddy. It's not safe back there.

Robert Bishop: Hey. Hey, uh, Lieutenant Severide, we need to talk... Hey, don't touch that! That's police business!

Cruz: Whoa, whoa. Oh, hey!

Severide: Squad 3 to Main. We need a 10-1 to this location.

Dispatch: Copy, Squad 3. Units en route.

----------

Pascal: How did you know it wasn't his own personal collection?

Severide: It was at least 50 grand worth of Cubans in there.

Pascal: Now, with probable cause, they can search the house. Wonder what else he's got stashed away?

Severide: This can't be a coincidence, right?

Pascal: How do you mean?

Severide: Same MO as the storage facility. Set it on fire, have us pop the locks... You think his CI did it to keep Bishop from coming after him?

Pascal: Could see that.

Severide: I'll give Vonn a call, see if she can't bring in the CI again.

Pascal: Don't get your hopes up. If it was the CI, he's probably in the wind. This might be for the best.

----------

Firehouse: Severide's quarters

Kidd: You sticking around?

Severide: I figured chief would need an extra hand with all the paperwork coming in.

Kidd: Well, I'm going to go home, get some sleep, a lot better than I would have knowing Bishop's off the streets... Really great work.

Severide: Thank you.

Kidd: Don't stay too late, it's just... You know your partner Pascal can handle the paperwork solo. Just so you know.

----------

Carver's apartement: living room

Carver: Hey, T?

----------

Molly's

Cruz: Hey. I thought you would be home studying.

Mouch: Do I really want to be the oldest lieutenant in the CFD?

Cruz: Oh, come on, Mouch.

Mouch: Is that what I'm adding to my legacy after 40 years on the job? Now I'm half couch, half geezer?

Cruz: I thought we moved past all of this.

Mouch: You do know they place you according to how you score on the test, which means I would have to ace the damn thing in order to have any shot at getting my number called before I retire. And even if I do, who wants a 60-year-old rookie lieutenant leading them into battle? I know I wouldn't.

Cruz: Hey.

Mouch: You know what's funny? I gave Herrmann hell for having doubts, but when it comes to myself... Maybe some people are destined to make rank, and some people aren't.

Cruz: I know you don't want my advice, but you're wrong on this. You're going to make a great lieutenant because of what you just said... 40 years on the job, a lifetime of experience. And you're going to ace that test for the same reason. You got the answers right here and here.

----------

Ritter: Nice work, Novak. Dropping some science on those white shirts.

Novak: Yeah, well, it was Violet's idea to get the medevac guy to hand deliver the proposal to Chief Robinson in his flight suit.

Violet: Mm-hmm.

Ritter: Hot. So what happens now?

Violet: Robinson already agreed to let Novak make a presentation to the CFD Logistics and Support leadership team.

Novak: Yeah, well, I don't know how I'm going to stand in front of all those people and not lose my lunch.

Flynn Calhoun: Don't picture them in their underwear. I tried that in court once. Started a hell of a spiral.

Novak: Good to know... Big move, inviting him to Molly's.

Ritter: I'm Darren.

Flynn Calhoun: So you're Ritter. I've heard a lot about you.

Ritter: Really? That's weird. I haven't heard anything about you, at all, every shift.

Violet: I mean, that's Ritter.

Ritter: No, it's great to meet you.

----------

Firehouse: Pascal's office

Severide: Did they get that safe open in Bishop's closet yet?

Pascal: Half a million dollars in cash and a Rolex collection. Good luck explaining that, right?

Severide: You look like you could use a break. You smoke cigars?

Pascal: I lived in Miami for ten years. What do you think?

Severide: Well, they're not Cubans, but I have a few stashed in my locker that aren't half bad.

----------

Outside the firehouse

Severide: So I just talked to Vonn about Bishop's CI.

Pascal: They bringing him in?

Severide: No. They had that tail on him. Turns out he didn't go anywhere near Bishop's house.

Pascal: Huh.

Severide: No, I keep thinking... What are the odds of an engine fire in Bishop's car exactly when and where we needed it to happen?

Pascal: Pretty low... All that matters is, he won't be messing with our families again.
