Outside the firehouse
Monica Pascal: Hi, this is Monica. Leave a message and I'll call you back.
Pascal: I know you're pissed, but come on, give me a call. I'm sorry about how everything went down and I just wanna talk to you.
----------
Firehouse: hallway
Violet: Good morning, Chief.
Pascal: Morning.
Ritter: I could tell it was something serious by the tone of Dwayne's voice.
Violet: Okay.
Ritter: He wants to move in together.
Violet: Oh, that's so sweet.
Ritter: It is and I said yes because I'm kind of in love with the guy, but I just... I need my own space.
Violet: In love. Aw.
Ritter: Wow, you are really going soft. I blame Flynn.
----------
Firehouse: bunkroom
Violet: Well, I did use the word boyfriend when I was talking about him the other day.
Ritter: How does that help me tell Dwayne I am not into cohabitation right now?
Violet: Oh.
Ritter: I have to say something before it gets to the point of no return.
Violet: Yeah.
----------
Firehouse: locker room
Capp: Acting up this shift, huh?
Cruz: Yeah, Severide's got some fire inspection boondoggle in Michigan.
Tony: You know, I always wanted to go to Michigan.
Capp: You know it's like an hour to the border, right?
Tony: Why would I wanna go to the border?
Cruz: The hell is this? One of you guys put this in my locker? Is this some kind of a prank?
Tony: No. What is it?
Capp: Looks like a bullet.
Cruz: Uh, actually, I think it's a pendant.
Tony: Hey, maybe one of the weirdos from the first shift used your locker.
Cruz: Yeah, well, whoever it was... They need to stay the hell out of here from now on. It's not a storage dump.
----------
Firehouse: common room
Carver: Why are you cooking today, Lieutenant?
Kidd: Honestly, I couldn't remember when I last got behind the grill. Figured it was time. It's funny the things you miss sometimes when you move up the ladder.
----------
Herrmann: Hey.
Mouch: Good morning.
Novak: You guys seem pretty chill considering the officer's tests are tomorrow.
Herrmann: And I was trying to forget about it. Thank you very much.
Mouch: I have achieved a state of zen-like calm.
Herrmann: Oof. Yeah, I can tell.
Mouch: Mm?
Herrmann: Mm, no.
Mouch: Mm?
Novak: What are these?
Mouch: Certs.
Novak: What's a Cert?
Mouch: It's a mint. How do you not know that?
Herrmann: Because they're old man mints. And I'm pretty sure that they were discontinued years ago.
Mouch: Get outta here.
Herrmann: Yeah.
Mouch: They're not that old.
----------
Cruz: Something smells good.
Carver: Kidd's got a kitchen sink scramble in the works.
Kidd: Mm-hmm, and chow is up!
Dispatch: Truck 81, Ambulance 61. Person down from unknown causes.
Kidd: Let's go!
Dispatch: 8577 Keystone Avenue.
----------
Street
Neighbor: Back here.
----------
Phil Webster's back yard
Neighbor: This is bad.
Kidd: Ma'am, I need you to control your dog so we can get to your husband.
Neighbor: Oh, that's not my dog or my husband. Phil's my neighbor. I heard him yelling and I know he lives alone.
Carver: I'm on it. Come here, boy, come here. Good boy. Easy now. Come on. Yeah, good boy.
Kidd: All right... Let's turn this off. All right, Mouch, Ritter, widen this hole.
Mouch: Copy that.
Carver: Good boy.
Kidd: Phil, we're gonna get you out of here. All right? Just keep listening to the sound of my voice and breathe in, all right? Hey, Carver, hold this steady.
Carver: You got it.
Kidd: Take deep breaths. You're doing great.
Violet: All right, sir, we are going to start an IV and give you some fentanyl for the pain, okay?
Kidd: Hey, Phil, what are you doing here? Are you... Are you building a fence?
Phil Webster: For my dog. My hand slipped. I... I got spun around.
Ritter: Hey, Lieutenant.
Kidd: Yeah.
Ritter: How's this?
Phil Webster: How... How bad is it?
Kidd: All right, Phil, we gotta free your leg so we can take you to the hospital. Even with the meds... You're gonna feel some pain.
Phil Webster: Do it.
Kidd: Okay. Ritter, get the backboard ready. Mouch, cut away any clothing.
Mouch: Copy.
Kidd: And Carver, just try to keep him still.
Carver: Copy that.
Kidd: Okay. It's gonna be okay.
Carver: Hold on to me.
Kidd: Okay, we're gonna do this quick. Like ripping off a Band-Aid, okay?
Phil Webster: Okay.
Kidd: Ready? On three, two, one... Almost there... Almost there... Okay, clear. Grab the Speedsplint... Got the splint. There we go, Phil. We gotcha.
Carver: Should I put him inside, Lieutenant?
Kidd: Probably a good idea. Yeah.
Carver: Come on, boy. Come on. It's okay, it's okay, it's okay. Yeah, it's okay.
Kidd: All right.
Ritter: Now.
----------
Street
Kidd: Okay. Good to go!
----------
Phil's back yard
Carver: This way, buddy. We'll make sure someone checks on you. Come on, come on. Hey, hey. Whoa, whoa. Hey, hey, stay, stay, stay!
----------
Ambulance 61
Phil Webster: Am I gonna die?
Novak: You're doing good. Just keep that oxygen on for me, okay?
----------
Phil's yard
Carver: Wait, wait, wait! Stay! Hey, somebody grab him! Come back and grab him!
----------
Street
Kidd: That is one loyal dog. I hope he doesn't get killed. 61, victim's dog took off after the ambo.
----------
Ambulance 61
Kidd: Any chance you got eyes on him?
Violet: Um, no, I don't see anything... Oh, wait, no. No, I got him. All right, Novak, I'm pulling over.
Phil Webster: The leg still there?
Novak: It's all bandaged up, but they're gonna take good care of you at Med.
Phil Webster: Oh, please, please don't let me die.
Novak: I got you, Phil.
----------
Street
Violet: You're a speedy old guy.
----------
Ambulance 61
Phil Webster: Oh, Fridge!
Violet: Okay.
----------
Firehouse: Pascal's office
Pascal: Damn it.
----------
Firehouse: garage
Herrmann: You're on a roll.
Tony: Four threes.
Herrmann: I'm calling BS on you already. You can't start that high. All right? Hey! You cannot lift up the cup!
Capp: When you said you'd teach us Liar's Dice, it sounded fun. This isn't fun.
----------
Kidd: Okay, so Chief, our victim, the owner of this dog...
Carver: His name's Fridge.
Mouch: The dog is Fridge. The victim is Phil.
Kidd: Yes, the victim was taken into surgery right away, so there wasn't time to find a contact to take the dog, so the medics handed him off to us at Med.
Carver: Hopefully, the owner will pull through, but his injuries are pretty serious.
Kidd: So in the meantime, until we get an update, I was hoping that we could keep the dog here.
Pascal: Fine... For now. I'll be back.
----------
Pascal's house: entrance
Pascal: Monica.
Monica Pascal: Up here.
----------
Pascal's house: bedroom
Monica Pascal: Hi.
Pascal: Why didn't you call me back? I didn't know if you were still here at your sister's or what.
Monica Pascal: I didn't sleep well at Olivia's, so as soon as I got home, I crashed.
Pascal: You always check your phone. You didn't call me back because you wanted to scare me.
Monica Pascal: Hey, you're the one who scared the hell out of me. Sending me away in the middle of the night?
Pascal: I was protecting you.
Monica Pascal: But I don't like being without you.
Pascal: I have to go back to the firehouse.
Monica Pascal: Mm-mm.
----------
Monica Pascal: Sorry, I couldn't keep my hands off you. Hope you don't get in trouble with the boss when you get back.
Pascal: You are irresistible... What's my gun doing under the bed? I keep it in the closet. Always.
Monica Pascal: I moved it before I went to sleep. I was really shaken up after the last few days and I just wanted to feel safe.
Pascal: You don't need my gun... You don't shoot... I took care of that situation. There's no reason to be worried any more... I told you that... All right, I'll call you later... Hope you pick up this time... I love you.
Monica Pascal: Love you.
----------
Firehouse: common room
Ritter: I just had a 20-minute phone call with Dwayne where I managed to not tell him that I don't wanna move in together.
Carver: Living together is hard, man. You shouldn't make the move unless you're feeling it 100%.
Ritter: You wanna call him for me?
Carver: I'm not the guy you want managing your relationship. Trust me... Sit.
Ritter: See, Tuesday would not go for being leashed. And then she'd wander off and get into so much stuff, I eventually had to stop bringing her to the firehouse.
Carver: He stopped pulling. But I'm not taking this rope off, that's for sure.
Ritter: It's nice to have a dog in the house again.
Carver: It is. Come on. Come on.
----------
Violet: Okay, so I need the whole plan laid out because it is a tangled web you're weaving.
Mouch: It's pretty simple, actually. Tomorrow I take the lieutenant exam and Herrmann takes the captain exam. After Herrmann holds the captain rank for a hopefully limited time...
Herrmann: Oh, I think I... I might be having a heart attack. This is great.
Mouch: Herrmann will then go on to take the chief exam. And when he passes that, he moves into the big office and sits in the big desk.
Violet: Then you take over for Engine Lieutenant. Kaboom.
Novak: What about Pascal? Is he really just gonna hand over that desk?
Mouch: They haven't directly discussed it, but Pascal knows Boden wants Herrmann in there.
Herrmann: You keep saying, "when we pass." It's not when, it's if. If we pass!
Novak: Well, I am just impressed with all the hoops you guys are jumping through to stay at 51. And how much you're relying on each other to get it done.
Violet: Yeah, it's actually kind of sweet.
Ritter: Sweet? Do you see what's happening to her? She used to be the cynical one. Now the dynamics are gonna get all messed up.
----------
Firehouse: bullpen
Kidd: Oh, Chief. I was just looking for you.
Pascal: Oh, well, I had... I had a meeting. Down... Down at headquarters... Uh, what was it you needed, Lieutenant?
Kidd: I just wanted to update you about our victim from this morning.
Pascal: Mm.
Kidd: He survived the surgery. He is still intubated in the ICU. They removed his leg from the knee down.
Pascal: I'm sorry to hear that.
Kidd: It's not great news, but it could have been a lot worse. I just wanted to make sure that you were okay that we keep Fridge around until somebody from the family reaches out. And Carver offered to take him home once we go off-duty.
Pascal: All right... Any ETA on those monthly training reports I asked you to put together?
Kidd: I am working on them right now. Should have them to you by the end of shift... Will. I-I-I will have them to you by the end of shift. Chief.
Pascal: Thank you, Lieutenant.
Kidd:Okay.
----------
Firehouse: Herrmann's quarters
Mouch: You were right.
Herrmann: I'm sure I was. About what?
Mouch: They stopped manufacturing these in 2018.
Herrmann: Well, they're still strong enough that I can hear you chewing on them five rooms away even with my bad ears, so how bad can they be?
Mouch: Novak didn't even know what they were. Neither did Ritter or Violet when I asked them.
Herrmann: Yeah, so?
Mouch: You said it yourself. They're old man mints.
Herrmann: So what? We're old men.
Mouch: Well, I'm putting up a pretty good fight against Father Time, in case you hadn't noticed. And by the way, so are you.
Herrmann: Mm-hmm.
----------
Outside the firehouse
Cruz: Gentlemen, today's drill: large area searches. Tony, find a secure anchor point. Stretch the rope back to the main door.
Tony: Copy that.
Cruz: Capp... Blacked out means blacked out. No peek holes.
Capp: Perfectionist.
Cruz: Okay. What's the joke? I don't get it.
Tony: No idea, Cruz. I'm telling you it's not us.
Cruz: Doesn't make any sense. All right. Let's do it.
Dispatch: Ambulance 61, wellness check. 9285 Oakley Avenue, apartment 20.
----------
Building: hallway
Violet: CFD paramedics.
Novak: Dispatch said the wellness call was from the resident's mother?
Violet: Yeah, they said she sounded pretty upset.
Novak: CFD. Anyone home?
Violet: There's something blocking the door.
----------
Appartment
Violet: Oh, God. Okay, let's get him down now. Novak, try to take off some of the weight.
Novak: Oh, no, no. No.
Violet: Are you all right?
Novak: Yeah, I'm okay.
Violet: Okay. Okay. No obvious sign of fracture. I'm gonna bag him... Okay, here we go. Relax. Try to relax. Try to relax. Relax, relax. Breathe in. There you go. There you go.
Novak: 52%, but rising... Just hit 88.
Violet: Okay. Okay, good. You're all right. All right. We're gonna get you to the hospital now, okay?
Novak: Why did you do that? How could you do that to us?
Violet: Novak! Let's get him on the stretcher. Now.
----------
Building: hallway
Violet: All right, let's go.
----------
Ambulance 61
Violet: Do you know that guy?
Novak: No, I-I-I've never seen him. It wasn't that.
Violet: Well, he's gonna make it because we were there to help him.
Novak: I'm... I'm mortified about the way I acted. I just lost my grip, and it will never happen again.
Violet: Do you wanna talk about it?
Novak: I'm fine. It was just... It was kind of shocking, and I am... I'm good now.
Violet: Well, the new chaplain, LeFevour, I hear he's really good, and if you ever feel like you need to go to someone, you can...
Novak: No, but thank you... Really.
Violet: Okay. But my offer still stands any time.
Novak: I know.
----------
Firehouse: entrance
Herrmann: Hey, so, I've been trying to keep my mind off of everything, you know, and I've pretty much cleaned up every single piece of equipment in the house, and I've yelled at Capp and Tony more than I usually do, and now I need some busywork.
Kidd: Oh?
Herrmann: That doesn't include cleaning the bathrooms.
Kidd: Ah.
Mouch: What's happening here?
Herrmann: I'm looking for busy work.
Mouch: Not the worst idea I've ever heard.
Kidd: I got it... Okay. You guys can help me fill out my monthly training reports. These are my notes. These are the forms. They've been piling up, and Pascal has been on my case. If it were Severide, he'd get away with a few more weeks, but... Not me.
Herrmann: Um, I don't like the look of those.
Kidd: You were the one that said busywork.
Herrmann: I...
Kidd: This is better than the bathrooms, Herrmann. I am just trying to help you out.
Herrmann: No. What I want...
Monica Pascal: Hi.
Kidd: Hi.
Monica Pascal: I'm Monica Pascal, Dom's wife.
Kidd: Oh. Oh, wow. Uh, uh, hi... Um, I'm Lieutenant Kidd. It's nice to meet you.
Monica Pascal: Mm.
Mouch: I'm McHolland. Good to meet you.
Monica Pascal: Pleasure.
Herrmann: So hey, Mrs. Pascal, why don't I walk you over to the chief's office?
Monica Pascal: That'd be great.
Herrmann: All right.
Monica Pascal: Thank you.
Herrmann: Yeah, right this way.
Carver: Who's that?
Kidd: That is Chief's wife.
Mouch: Very pretty lady.
Kidd: She really is... I appreciate this, Mouch.
Mouch: No, you...
Kidd: Thank you.
Carver: Oh oh.
Mouch: No.
----------
Firehouse: Pascal's office
Monica Pascal: Hey.
Herrmann: Hey. It's nice to meet you.
Monica Pascal: You too.
Pascal: You like to surprise me with these visits.
Monica Pascal: Happy surprise, I hope.
Pascal: Of course.
Monica Pascal: Strange that I barely know anything about your firehouse, isn't it? I had no idea you had a dog here.
Pascal: Yeah.
Monica Pascal: And that fireman who walked me in, Herrmann, he seems lovely.
Pascal: Well, that dog's temporary. And firefighters could be too. You never know.
Monica Pascal: I wanted to stop by and tell you that I signed up for a firearm training at a gun range in Park Ridge... You were right when you said I don't shoot. And I wanna learn.
Pascal: You don't need to do that. What happened, that's... That's never gonna happen again.
Monica Pascal: I've heard that before.
Pascal: Well, if you wanna keep on punishing me, fine, but this gun training...
Monica Pascal: I'm not here to ask permission, Dom... I just wanted you to know... See you later tonight.
----------
Firehouse: hallway
Carver: Hey, Lieutenant, I was gonna take Fridge out real quick, stop by that store down the street, get him some food. I'll have this with me.
Kidd: All right. You think he's named Fridge because of his appetite?
Carver: Uh, I'd guess it has more to do with the Bears' defensive tackle, William the Refrigerator Perry. Scored a touchdown in Super Bowl XX.
Kidd: Mm. If it was a Blackhawks reference, I would've got it.
Carver: Mm.
Ritter: I already share a bedroom with all of you. If I don't have one of my own anywhere...
Carver: I get it.
Kidd: You'll know when it's right. Mm-hmm.
Carver: Let's go.
----------
Firehouse: garage
Cruz: Leon. Come inside the house, bro. Everybody's gonna wanna say hello.
Leon Cruz: No. Maybe another time. But I gotta talk to you about something.
Cruz: W-what's going on?
Leon Cruz: A Cook County parole agent reached out to me about Junior. It's Flaco's cousin. The guy I helped put away, like, 12 years ago. The only person besides you who was in that building when Flaco died.
Cruz: Uh, what about him? He's in prison for attempted murder, right? It's, like, a 20-year sentence.
Leon Cruz: That... That's the thing. He got early release... He got out last week.
Cruz: Uh... Do you know why the parole agent thinks that Junior might be a threat to you?
Leon Cruz: I don't know. He-he just said it's policy to notify anyone involved in the criminal case.
Cruz: Did he have any updates on the gang members Junior used to hang with?
Leon Cruz: No. And there wasn't any chatter. Least as far as I know. But there's no way Junior's not coming for me. I took down the Insane Kings, his home base... Now I've been staying with some guys I know outside the city, but what if he does track me down?
Cruz: Okay, okay, look... Junior's been in jail for 12 years. I bet he just wants to keep his head down. You can keep an eye out, but don't run scared. It was a long time ago.
Leon Cruz: I shouldn't be here long. I gotta go.
Cruz: Yeah, yeah, okay. But... But let me know if anything else happens. Hey, seriously, anything.
Leon Cruz: Thanks, Joe.
Cruz: Yeah.
----------
Outside the firehouse
Pascal: Um, anything I can do to help?
Novak: No... All good. But thank you... You know, I did good when I was a floater and I just bounced from house to house. I never lost it like this. Not once. And now I'm with all these people who rely on each other for everything and they wanna know everything.
Pascal: It's hard... To let people know you. Especially these people. Feels like once you get inside the fold here, you may never get out.
Novak: Yeah. 51 is like quicksand that way.
Pascal: We're frontliners. You and me... We run toward the danger, not away from it. Right?
Novak: I don't really know. I mean, about me, anyway.
Pascal: Yes, you do... You've been braver than me so far... Good night, Novak.
----------
Firehouse: hallway
Violet: I don't wanna keep pushing. It might just make her shut down even more, but I just... I wanna help, you know?
Kidd: You can't make someone open up if they don't want to. If nothing else, Kelly has definitely taught me that.
Violet: How's he doing in Michigan?
Kidd: Good. But he's decided to come back a little early. Which, of course, I'm happy about.
Violet: Aw, he misses you. That's sweet.
Kidd: Ritter was right. You are going soft, girl.
----------
Firehouse: common room
Kidd: Hey, buddy.
Gail Webster: Aw. Fridge! There he is... I'm Gail, Phil Webster's daughter.
Kidd: How's your dad doing?
Gail Webster: I just got a call about what happened and drove right to the hospital to see him. Guess he's gotta have a bunch more surgeries on the leg, but the doctors say he's improving.
Kidd: Good.
Carver: I'm glad to hear it... That's a good dog he's got.
Gail Webster: I said I'd take Fridge right home, but I might try and sneak him into the hospital first... No better medicine than a dog, right?
Violet: Yeah. I saw it for myself.
Gail Webster: Thank you, guys, for taking care of both of them.
Carver: One quick question. The name Fridge.
Gail Webster: Super Bowl XX.
Kidd: Carver figured that.
Carver: Just makes sense. Give your dad our best.
Gail Webster: Will do.
Carver: Mm. Good boy. Yeah.
Kidd: Aw. Sweet.
Carver: Might be time for me to get a dog. So ready to take that guy home.
Kidd: Now, is Tori a dog person?
Carver: Tori moved back to Texas.
----------
Lab
Cruz: Really appreciate this, Nadia. Yeah, I didn't wanna make a whole big deal out of this, especially since it's just a small personal thing.
Nadia: Not a problem.
Cruz: I, uh, I found it at a yard sale and I didn't even know that it opened up like that until I got it home. So I was just curious if... What you thought about the ashes in there. You know, get your professional take?
Nadia: I've seen these things before. They're called pendant urns... These... Are cremated remains.
----------
Firehouse: locker room
Cruz: Hey, you ever seen this before?
Kenneth: Nah.
Cruz: How about you?
Gagmom: Mm-mm.
Cruz: Hey, you recognize this, Driscoll?
Driscoll: No.
Cruz: You?
Firefighter: Mm-mm.
Cruz: Has anyone seen somebody put this in my locker? Or even holding it?
Kenneth: No.
Cruz: Someone in this firehouse knows whose it is.
----------
CFD: hallway
Mouch: Mm. Is it extraordinarily hot in here?
Herrmann: Nah. Pretty mild, actually.
Mouch: I bet none of these people know what a Certs is.
Herrmann: Yeah.
Mouch: When these are gone, so goes a great generation of lozenges.
Herrmann: Mm. Yeah... Oh, thank God I don't have to take the test next to you. I'd have to turn my ears off. Give me one of those... Oh, come on. Forget it then, all right? Probably kill me anyway, 100-year-old candy. I don't want it. Eh.
Mouch: Take one. You've earned it.
Herrmann: Thank you.
Chief: Okay, it's time to get started. Anyone that doesn't know their room assignment, come see me.
Herrmann: Good luck, Mouchie.
Mouch: And to you, my friend.
----------
Outside the firehouse
Carver: I send a lot of work their way, so the supply house gave me a great discount. And you guys didn't have to help. I can put the fence together solo.
Ritter: Bet that's just what Phil said to himself. Did you guys hear that sarcasm? This is Violet's fault. I'm becoming the cynic.
Kidd: I'm happy to help. Don't even think twice. Kelly doesn't come back into town until tomorrow, so I'm just making good use of my time.
Ritter: And I'm avoiding Dwayne, obviously.
Carver: I appreciate it. Figure it's the least I can do after I almost got Fridge killed.
Kidd: Phil is not gonna give you that dog, Carver. If that's what you're hoping for.
Carver: I know... But I did offer to dog-sit.
Ritter: Get your own dog, man.
Kidd: Ritter... Hate to tell you this. Your current attitude is not Violet's fault.
Ritter: Am I becoming Herrmann?
Kidd: No, you just gotta go talk to Dwayne. Just sort some things out.
Ritter: You're right.
Carver: We got this. Go.
Kidd: Listen, it'll be fine. You guys are good. You're just asking for a little bit more time.
Ritter: Yeah... Thanks.
Kidd: Mm-hmm.
Ritter: See you guys next shift.
Carver: See ya, Ritter.
Kidd: See ya. Go get him!
----------
Pascal's house: kitchen
Pascal: Oh, hey. How was work?
Monica Pascal: Busy... Jeanine was sick, so I had to make up the bride and eight bridesmaids by myself.
Pascal: Here's the firearms training facility a lot of the members of CFD use. These guys, they... They know what they're doing.
Monica Pascal: Thank you... I'm not even sure this is what I want... All I really want, Dom, is for you to stop going it alone. No more secrets, no more scorched earth all around us. That way, we can keep each other safe... Okay?
Pascal: Okay.
----------
Street
Old Lady: Can I help you?
Novak: Oh, no, I was just... I just, I used to live here, that's all. When I was a little girl.
Old Lady: Are you... Are you one of the Novak kids?
Novak: Yeah. I am... Have a good night.
----------
Violet's apartement: living room
Violet: Why so early?
----------
Violet's apartement: front door
Novak: Oh. I don't wanna interrupt anything. Are you going out?
Violet: Not anymore. Come on in.
Novak: I'm sure your date was gonna be awesome.
----------
Violet's apartement: living room
Novak: But maybe not as awesome as hanging out with me and watching every bad TV show about matchmaking?
Violet: That sounds like the perfect night.
----------
Church
Junior Polanco: Hey. It's Joe Cruz... You remember me, right, Joe? It's been a while. Let me refresh your memory. I'm the one who saw you close the door on my cousin. And left him to die... We need to talk, my friend.
