Jail

Officer: Let's go. You made bail.

----------

21 District: entrance

Carver: Hell, I'm sorry to drag you out here for all this, Chief.

Boden: Kidd explained the whole situation. You have nothing to feel bad about.

Carver: Yeah, well, I do.

Kidd: Hey, don't worry. Mike Knowles, he's gonna sort this whole thing out.

Boden: He's a lawyer with the Union. Got contacts in the state attorney's office.

Kidd: He's gonna call over there in the morning, give them a refresher on Illinois' self-defense statute.

Boden: With any luck, they will drop the whole thing before the brass gets wind of it.

Carver: So... So what, you're not reporting this up the chain?

Boden: I don't see the need to get IAD involved. Let's just keep this quiet.

Carver: So, uh, what happens now?

Boden: Business as usual, far as I'm concerned.

Kidd: The truck's parked across the street. Report to shift in the morning. See you in a couple hours.

----------

Firehouse: garage

Violet: How are you feeling this morning?

Brett: Oh, uh, fine. I didn't sleep great. I can't get that little girl out of my mind. I mean... Amber brought her to us here for a reason, because she knew that we would take care of her.

Violet: Well, we took her to Med, where they'll make sure she's happy and healthy until DCFS finds a family for her.

Brett: I guess it just feels strange dropping her off, not knowing what's gonna happen.

Violet: Maybe on our next run to Med, we check on her.

Brett: I was thinking the same thing... Just follow up, see that little face. I know it'll make me feel better.

Violet: Then let's do it.

----------

Firehouse: common room

Ritter: And he's the one that ends up in handcuffs?

Gallo: Mm-hmm.

Ritter: That's crazy.

Capp: Wait, who's in handcuffs?

Gallo: We're just talking about the whole thing with Carver getting arrested.

Capp: Wait, back up. Carver got arrested?

Gallo: Yeah.

Capp: Hey, guys. Carver got arrested.

Tony: Yeah, we know.

Mouch: And Capp, we don't need a town crier to get the word out. Boden's trying to keep it off the radar.

Capp: Well, it's off of my radar. How come I'm the only one that doesn't know about it?

Dispatch: Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambo 61. Person trapped, 2001 East Mendell.

----------

Firehouse: truck 81

Gallo: Hey. You okay?

Carver: Never better.

----------

Cement factory

Wade: Some idiot left the top hatch open, and one of my guys fell in.

Cruz: What's in the silo?

Wade: Dry cement. It's about half full.

Kidd: How many access points we got?

Wade: Just the top hatch and the release valve down below.

Cruz: All right, ropes and trench gear!

Gallo: On it.

Kidd: Yeah.

Cruz: Show me.

Wade: This way.

Kidd: We're gonna go up, see what's what. I'll let you know what we need. In the meantime, raise the aerial for an anchor point and to fly up equipment.

Mouch: Copy that.

----------

Silo

Owen: Help! Help me!

Cruz: All right, uh, what's your name, buddy?

Owen: Owen!

Cruz: All right, Owen, we're gonna get you out of there as quick as we can, but we need a couple of minutes to get our equipment up here! Can you breathe okay?

Owen: Not really. Getting crushed here.

Cruz: Just keep calm and stay still.

Kidd: All right, guys, grab a smoke ejector, ropes, and harnesses. Any free hands, lend them to Squad.

----------

Carver: Copy that! On our way!

Mouch: There you go.

----------

Silo

Wade: All right.

Cruz: Whoa... Hey, hey, hey! Be careful.

Wade: We could open the release valve and let all the cement out from the bottom.

Cruz: That would destabilize the cement. It could make things worse. We need to secure him first.

Wade: Are you okay down there, Owen?

Owen: No. Can't breathe. You gotta get me out of here!

Wade: We should open it. I'm telling you, this is the way to go.

Cruz: No, sir. Please, don't. Don't... Hey! What the hell are you doing?

Wade: Owen?

Kidd: Hey! You need to back up and let us handle this right now. Hang on!

Cruz: We're coming, Owen!

Owen: Get me out of here, please!

Mouch: Hey, Squad, be ready with those ropes down there.

Capp: Copy.

Cruz: I could use one of you guys on harness shuttling stuff down and giving me a hand down there.

Kidd: Okay.

Gallo: I can do it.

Kidd: Okay. Gallo, get a harness on. I'll take an air reading.

Cruz: Good... Good.

Kidd: Hold!

Cruz: Okay. Let's just get this around you, Owen.

Kidd: Hold.

Gallo: Got it.

Carver: Crew's coming in.

Cruz: Hang on there for me, buddy. Hang on.

Gallo: You got it?

Cruz: Got it. We're losing him! Hey, Gallo, come down here and give me a hand.

Gallo: Bring me down.

Cruz: Come on. There you go. Come on. Please stay with me.

Kidd: Keep going.

Gallo: Right on top of you, Cruz.

Cruz: Slack!

Kidd: Slack!

Cruz: Good.

Gallo: Oxygen's at 19 and falling.

Cruz: Kidd! We need more air down here!

Kidd: Copy... Okay... We got you.

Gallo: Back up to 20.

Cruz: Okay. Kidd! We don't have enough time to trench. Go ahead, dump out the product slowly. We're gonna dig him out.

Kidd: Okay, I'll dump on your call!

Cruz: All right, Capp, I need you to put tension on this rope and hold!

Capp: Copy.

Cruz: Okay, Kidd, when you're ready, start dumping the product out slowly.

Kidd: Starting to dump.

Cruz: All right, that'll have to do. Lift him up nice and slow, and, uh, let's have medics standing by with oxygen.

Kidd: Okay! Squad, bring him up slowly!

Gallo: Come on. Come on. There you go.

Kidd: Keep going... Hold!

Carver: All right.

Kidd: Bring him down! Hold.

Violet: Saturation's 84%.

Brett: All right, you find a vein. I'll start the O2.

Violet: Copy.

Brett: Sir, can you hear me? Sir? Can you hear me?

Owen: Mm-hmm.

Brett: Let's get him down.

----------

CMED: ER

Brett: Excuse me. Hi. Um, could you tell us which room the rescue baby is in? The one we brought in from Firehouse 51.

Nurse: The safe surrender?

Brett: Yeah. Yes, we just wanted to pop in and see her.

Nurse: Oh, good news. DCFS found someone to take emergency custody.

Violet: Wow, that was quick.

Brett: I... I didn't realize that could happen so fast.

Nurse: As a rule, they'd rather newborns in a home than a busy hospital.

Brett: A home? What kind of home?

Nurse: I don't know much about it. We don't get a lot of details.

Brett: But you mean, like, with a family, not a home as in an institution, right?

Nurse: I'm really not sure. I'm sorry.

Brett: Okay. Thank you.

----------

Brett: I don't like it. I think it's too fast.

Violet: I know it seems that way...

Brett: I mean, how much vetting could they possibly do in two days? We've all heard the horror stories of kids falling through the cracks because some bureaucrat was cutting corners. I'm gonna call DCFS and get to the bottom of it.

----------

Firehouse: common room

Capp: I knew it. You guys are on a group chat without me.

Ritter: What? No, you're on there, aren't you?

Capp: Did you hear my phone buzz? This is why I'm out of the loop all the time.

Gallo: Dude, no, relax. It's just a stupid group chat. I thought you were on it too.

Capp: Well, I'm not.

Ritter: I could add you, if you want.

Capp: That would be nice... There are a million people on here... Violet... Cruz... Mouch? Does Mouch even know how to text? Come on.

----------

Firehouse: Boden's office

Boden: Okay... Yeah, you let us know when you find out.

Carver: That Mike Knowles? Is he connected with the state's attorney's office yet?

Boden: He's still trying to get a meeting with the ASA, but... Apparently the ASA has reached out to the CFD.

Carver: That didn't stay secret for long... So now what happens?

Kidd: They're suspending you immediately pending a full investigation. You need to clear out your locker, and vacate the premises.

----------

Firehouse: locker room

Carver: I mean, realistically, I don't see how IAD can make a final decision until my legal situation is resolved, and that could take weeks, months maybe. So I'm out of a job when I'm broke as it is.

Kidd: Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Let Mike Knowles work his magic.

Carver: We are putting a lot of faith in a grown man named Mike. No, I gotta take this into my own hands.

Kidd: How?

Carver: I don't know. Somehow.

Kidd: Carver... I am so sorry that I dragged you into this. I should have called the police, I should have left you alone.

Carver: Screw that. I beat the cops there, and those few moments could have made all the difference. I mean, what if Shep had gotten inside your building by then? I'm glad you called me.

Kidd: I am going to do everything in my power to make this right.

----------

Firehouse: garage

Brett: Hey, I just talked to DCFS. The baby's caseworker is at our local office. They said she'd be back this afternoon. I was thinking maybe we could stop by?

Violet: Absolutely.

Dylan: I don't think medics are supposed to be this happy.

Brett: Well, hello.

Violet: Hey, Dylan.

Dylan: Hey, guys. Seem pretty jazzed for people that deal with crisis all day. What's happening?

Brett: Oh, we just got an update on one of our patients, which is nice.

Violet: I'm gonna head inside. It was nice to see you, Dylan.

Dylan: Same. See you soon. I was just at the children's hospital, and that kid Levi was back. He was doing some PT.

Brett: Yeah, I remember him... I pulled a quarter out of his ear, and it actually worked.

Dylan: Yeah, well, you won his heart with that move because he asked me to give you this.

Brett: Aw, that's so sweet.

Dylan: I figured I'd bring it right by. I tried calling, but you've been a little tough to get a hold of.

Brett: Yeah, I'm sorry about that. Busy shift. We're still on for tomorrow night, though, right?

Dylan: Of course.

Brett: Thank you for bringing this by.

Dylan: You bet.

----------

CFD: Chief Silva's office

Jonathan: Hey, as I said, Mr. Silva is not available. But you can make an appointment.

Carver: I'm not going anywhere. I'll wait all day. I have nothing but time.

Jonathan: Sir...

Chief Silva: It's okay, Jonathan. Come on in, Carver. Berating my staff isn't gonna improve your situation, you know.

Carver: You're rushing to judgment here, Mr. Silva. I haven't even been charged with a crime yet. And if I am, it won't stick.

Chief Silva: This is no rush to judgment. You already had a written reprimand on your file.

Carver: The... The scrape I got in with the bridge tender? Even your sociopathic aide, Emma Jacobs, could see that was a bunch of nothing.

Chief Silva: It isn't nothing, Carver. It got you a written reprimand... It was up to you to stay out of trouble. You can't blame this one on IAD.

Carver: You know, most firefighters despise the Internal Affairs Division, think you're a bunch of rats.

Chief Silva: Thanks, I wasn't aware.

Carver: Well, I'm not one of them. Remember that thing in Bronzeville in 2014? Fontana and Rainey?

Chief Silva: I wasn't involved in that case, but I know of it, yeah.

Carver: That was me.

Chief Silva: You were the source on that one?

Carver: I was still just a candidate. I would have been blackballed if it got out that I was cooperating. And still to this day, no one knows about it... But I did it because it was the right thing to do... Same reason I got physical with that bridge tender, same reason I got arrested trying to protect my lieutenant from a dangerous man. My methods might get a little messy, but I am only ever trying to do the right thing, and you're gonna ruin me over it.

Chief Silva: Look, Carver, I... My hands are tied here. But if you can make this legal mess go away, my investigation goes away with it, and you'll be reinstated... I can promise you that.

----------

Firehouse: common room

Cruz: Thank you. I'm honored... Yes, sir. I'll see you then... Thank you.

Mouch: What's this big honor, Cruz?

Cruz: That was Chief Fletcher. You know, the... The chief over at the Training Academy? So apparently, Severide told him that if he ever needed a sub-in while he's in Alabama, I'm his guy. Guess who's teaching confined space rescue tomorrow?

Mouch: Hey!

Gallo: Nice.

Ritter: Yeah.

Gallo: Yeah, it is.

Cruz: Although I don't know how Chloe's gonna feel about it. I haven't had a full day off in I don't even... All right, who added Capp to the group chat?

Ritter: Let me guess. Is it a indecipherable, yet somehow also vaguely sexual, string of emojis?

Gallo: Or another TikTok of frogs eating worms?

Violet: Nope, a mildly sexist meme about lady firefighters... And Cruz has left the group.

Cruz: Damn straight. I got too much on my plate to worry about Capp's nonsense.

Kidd: Hey, guys, truck up. We need to go for a ride.

Gallo: I'll round up Carver.

Kidd: No Carver. He got suspended.

Violet: What? Really?

Mouch: Ah, damn.

Kidd: Come on!

----------

DCFS: Roxana's office

Brett: And after all of that, the mom decided to surrender the baby to my firehouse, so I rushed her to the hospital for the second time. And I guess that's why I feel such a strong responsibility to make sure she's safe.

Roxana: Miss Brett...

Brett: Please... Please call me Sylvie.

Roxana: I appreciate you wanting to follow up, but I can assure you that she's safe and sound. That's my job, and I take it seriously.

Brett: No, of course. I wasn't trying to...

Roxana: The baby's been placed in a wonderful home with a family that has fostered a number of newborns in the past. I know them personally, and I promise you have nothing to worry about.

Brett: Okay. But are they just fostering, or do they plan to adopt her?

Roxana: Well, I can't discuss those details.

Brett: Okay, because if they're only fostering her and eventually she's gonna be placed with a different family, then how can I be sure that she's gonna end up in good hands?

Roxana: Like I said, that's my job... You don't seem to want to accept my assurances on that, so is there something else you want here?

Brett: Yes, I guess there is. I... I want... What I want is to adopt this baby.

----------

Firehouse: lounge room

Brett: She said it was impossible.

Violet: She used that word, "impossible?"

Brett: No, but she may as well have. She said it would take months to get approved to adopt. Even if I hire a lawyer to fast-track it, there are so many parents waiting to adopt a newborn, Amber's baby would get placed within a few days at most. And that's if the family that took emergency custody isn't planning on adopting her, which they probably are.

Violet: I'm so sorry.

Brett: There was this moment right after I said the words out loud where... My heart just filled up with hope and possibility.

Violet: Look, I know this isn't what you wanted, but everything happens for a reason. And this experience, as painful as it is, made you... Made you realize that you want a baby in your life... It's a beautiful thing. And now that you know that, you can start figuring out how to make that happen.

Brett: But that's the thing. I don't... I don't just want a baby. I want that little girl. And I don't know if it's because our stories are the same, or if it's the crazy, miraculous way that she came into this world, but... The way I felt when I held her, she wasn't a stranger, Violet. I mean, she... She fit perfectly in my arms.

Violet: Then I guess you can't give up yet.

Brett: No, I can't.

----------

Truck 81

Kidd: Mouch, make a right up here.

Mouch: You know, Lieutenant, if you just told me where we were going, I could have found a more direct route.

Kidd: Okay, slow down.

Gallo: Hey, aren't we near where that garbage truck overturned?

Kidd: All right, stop right here, Mouch... All right. I'll be back.

Mouch: Uh, Kidd? Are you familiar with the term "witness tampering"? I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think you can go pressuring Shep into dropping the charges.

Kidd: I'm not pressuring anybody to do anything. I am just checking on a victim that I helped out. If, in the course of that conversation, he happens to understand that it is not right what's happening to Carver...

Gallo: Well, you aren't gonna talk to him all by yourself.

Kidd: Gallo, yes, I am. You both will just spook him. Stay here. I'll be right back.

----------

Camp

Kidd: Hey, Shep... Shep. It's me, Stella... Shep?

Shep: Errrr.

Kidd: Here. Shep, take some water. You look thirsty.

Shep: That's not what that water is. It tastes like broken glass is what that is.

Kidd: Do you know who I am?

Shep: You're Stella with the... You sicced the boyfriend on me.

Kidd: Shep, we gotta get you off the streets, okay? Look, I'm gonna find you a better place to stay, someplace safe... I'll come back for you. I promise.

----------

Truck 81

Kidd: He's in pretty bad shape... Yeah, dehydrated, way off his meds.

Mouch: That's too bad.

Kidd: It's worse than too bad. He's not gonna survive out here. And what he needs is long-term residential care.

Mouch: Beds in decent long-term facilities aren't easy to come by.

Kidd: Well, I promised him I'd find him a place.

----------

Academy

Hank Fletcher: Joe Cruz.

Cruz: Hey, morning, Chief.

Hank Fletcher: So glad you could come help out. You got everything you need?

Cruz: Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, we're all set here. Hey, thank you for asking me again.

Hank Fletcher: Well, word is, you are doing a hell of a job as Squad 3's acting lieutenant.

Cruz: No, I'm just holding down the fort while Severide's in Alabama.

Hank Fletcher: Uh, he's not in Alabama anymore. His training session ended.

Cruz: No, no, he's still there.

Hank Fletcher: No, I'm pretty sure. I'm buddies with one of the instructors down there at the ATF complex. They said they were so impressed with your lieutenant, they asked him to pitch in on some big investigation. Not sure where, though.

Cruz: Huh. Yeah, well, that's Severide for you, always making big impressions.

Hank Fletcher: I better let you get to it.

Cruz: See you later, Chief.

----------

Restaurant

Dylan: Wow, that's... That's pretty big news.

Brett: I don't know why I didn't tell you about her when you stopped by. That was weird I... I've been kind of obsessing, obviously. But it's not really news because I don't even know if it's... If it's gonna happen. Right now it seems impossible.

Dylan: You don't seem like the kind of person that takes impossible sitting down. Can I have, um, a double bourbon on the rocks, please? Anything for you?

Brett: No, I'll stick with the rosé.

Dylan: Uh, so what's... What's your next move?

Brett: Uh, that's the problem. I really don't know.

Dylan: Baby's in foster home now?

Brett: Yes. And they've fostered, then adopted newborns in the past. It's a big family.

Dylan: Well, that sounds kind of nice.

Brett: Yeah. And maybe it is. It could be the perfect home for her and I'm crazy and selfish to pursue this.

Dylan: Those are two things you are not, Sylvie. But maybe if... If you go see her with that family, you'll know if it really is a wonderful home.

Brett: What, like show up at their house?

Dylan: Why not? I bet DCFS would approve a visit. I've seen it done before with foster kids at the hospital... Hmm.

Brett: I think... Yeah, that's a great idea.

----------

Molly's

Gallo: Okay, that's it. I'm taking Capp off the group.

Ritter: We can... we can start a new group and just leave him off, you know, if you wanna be more subtle about it.

Gallo: The time for subtlety is over. You cannot violate every rule of group chats and not expect consequences... That's weird.

Violet: What's wrong?

Gallo: This 872 number, it's not my contacts. Do you guys know who it is?

Violet: No. I don't have it, either.

Ritter: Me, neither.

Gallo: Tony? Hey, um, do you know who this 872 number is in our group chat?

Tony: No.

Gallo: So you're telling me there's some rando lurking in our group chat for who knows how long?

Ritter: Reading all our gossip, our griping? The stupid jokes?

Violet: All of Capp's cringeworthy stuff.

Gallo: Whoa, whoa. We were texting you about Carver's arrest. For all we know, this interloper could be the one who tipped off IAD.

Tony: Now you sound a little paranoid.

Gallo: I'm not paranoid. This is a problem.

Ritter: This is a massive problem.

----------

Mouch: Thank you. So I used all my paramedicine contacts, and this is every long-term care facility in the county... Most up-to-date list, anyway.

Kidd: Oh, nice work, Mouch.

Mouch: You could start working the phones first thing in the morning.

Kidd: Great. And I already reached out to this lady, Dawn. She's the director over at Levitt Street Girls Home. I met her about a year ago when I was helping that girl, Jenny.

Mouch: The one who pawned her mom's ring?

Kidd: Yeah. So she said she'd put some feelers out. It's a shot in the dark, but I figure what the hell?

Mouch: Hey, like the man said, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Kidd: Exactly... Damn. I have to get to the firehouse... Herrmann, sorry, I gotta duck out. It's important.

Herrmann: Yeah. Go.

----------

Firehouse: briefing room

Mike Knowles: Sorry for the late hour. I didn't keep you waiting till tomorrow.

Carver: Never too late to meet the legendary Mike Knowles. Sam Carver.

Mike Knowles: Nice to meet you, Sam.

Boden: Did you connect with the ASA?

Mike Knowles: I did finally, yeah.

Carver: And where do we stand?

Mike Knowles: Well, I laid it all out for them, your whole situation... A decorated first responder acting in self-defense. I said to them, why don't you guys just plead this down to a class C misdemeanor? It's a no-brainer. But that's not how the state's attorney's office is looking at this. They're sensitive to the optics of a firefighter beating up a mentally ill homeless man. It's not a good look.

Boden: Wait a minute. You do realize that the homeless man in question was stalking Lieutenant Kidd, that she was the one who called the police?

Mike Knowles: Well, he was on a public street, and there's nothing like a restraining order in place.

Boden: Oh, come on.

Mike Knowles: And we're also very aware the firefighter in question has two prior disorderly conduct arrests.

Carver: Those were nothing. I got swept up in a bar fight or two. There were never any charges.

Mike Knowles: It's a pattern of behavior, Sam. They're not gonna go easy on you and risk the bad press. They're planning on charging you with felony assault.

Kidd: What?

Mike Knowles: They want jail time.

----------

Foster home

Patty: The DCSF woman said you rescued her, formed a real attachment.

Brett: Yeah, I just wanted to see her again, make sure she's in a safe place, which she obviously is. I heard you two have done a lot of fostering.

Patty: We have. How many children?

Maurice: Dozens.

Patty: Adopted six of them.

Brett: Yeah.

Maurice: They're all out of the house now. Our oldest has two of her own.

Brett: Oh, wow. So you're grandparents too. That's amazing. And are you... How are you feeling about starting this whole journey over from the beginning, if... If you don't mind me asking?

Maurice: Oh. Oh, this baby? No, no, no. We're just her temporary custodians.

Brett: So you're not looking to adopt again?

Patty: If she had no other options, we'd happily do it all again. But this one, she's gonna have lots of possibilities. Maybe you're one of them?

Brett: Me?

Maurice: Seems like you already have a connection.

Brett: To be honest, it's my dream. But this whole thing came out of the blue, and I haven't even begun the vetting process. And like you said, she's not gonna have any problem being matched with a family quickly. And timing-wise, there's just no way.

Patty: Actually... There is one way.

----------

Firehouse: garage

Violet: Hey, I was starting to worry.

Brett: I know. I'm sorry I'm late. I was at the foster home.

Violet: What? You saw Amber's baby?

Brett: I did, and she's doing great. She's perfect. The couple that she's with are wonderful. Violet, you're not gonna believe what they said. There is one way that I could cut through the normal adoption process. It's not impossible.

Violet: Really? How?

Brett: Amber would have to be willing to reclaim custody of the baby. I know, she made it perfectly clear that she doesn't want anything to do with the baby.

Violet: Okay, and if she does?

Brett: If she does reclaim custody, she could then designate me as the legal guardian for the baby and eventually the adoptive parent. I know. I know it's a long shot. But I can't help feeling like...

Violet: There's hope.

Brett: I'm so afraid to even let myself imagine it in case it doesn't happen, but if it does happen... What if I'm taking away her chance to be with a better family?

Violet: Not possible.

Brett: I'm not even a family. I'm just me. Am I crazy to wanna do this alone? You won't be doing it alone. You've got all of 51 behind you. You know that, right?

----------

Firehouse: briefing room

Kidd: All right. Thanks for your time. You were right, Mouch. This is pretty hopeless.

Mouch: Ugh. We still got a couple numbers left to try.

Cruz: You guys look busy.

Kidd: Little bit. Why, what's up?

Cruz: Can I talk to you for a minute?

Kidd: Uh... It's Dawn. Hey, give me one second. Hi, Dawn. How are you? Really? That is incredible. Okay. Bye.

Mouch: She found a place for him.

Kidd: At Hayvenhurst.

Mouch: That's a great facility!

Kidd: But they will only hold the bed for two hours. They're sending a team to pick him up at the encampment. I gotta go.

Mouch: Go!

Kidd: Ah, sorry, Cruz. I gotta...

Cruz: Yeah.

Kidd: I have to go.

Cruz: Yeah, no. Go. We'll catch up later.

Kidd: Okay. Thank you.

----------

Street

Kidd: Hi. Just give me a minute to find him, okay?

Man: Okay.

----------

Camp

Kidd: Hey, Shep! It's Stella! Hello, Shep?

Shep: Stella!

Kidd: Hey.

Shep: Who are they?

Kidd: These guys? Those are friends of mine.

Shep: Friends?

Kidd: Yes. They're here to help you. They got a place for you, a nice residential facility. Yeah, they're gonna take care of you. Come on. Look, I'll go with you. We'll look at it together. And if you don't like it, no one can make you stay.

----------

Firehouse: bullpen

Ritter: You're gonna do this.

Gallo: Wait, why me? This was your idea. It doesn't matter who calls.

Ritter: Right, so why don't you do it?

Violet: What's happening?

Gallo: We're trying to figure out who this 872 number belongs to.

Ritter: I figure we could use the landline to see if we recognize the voice on the other end.

Violet: That's smart.

Boden: Hello? Hello?

----------

Firehouse: common room

Gallo: It's Boden! Boden is the lurker.

Violet: It's over. We're dead.

Ritter: He's been privy to everything... Rumors, smack talking, inappropriate humor.

Mouch: What's all this?

Gallo: Somebody at some point added Chief Boden to our group chat. Why would they do that?

Mouch: I added him.

Ritter: You what?

Violet: Mouch? Why?

Mouch: It seemed rude to exclude him.

Gallo: Mouch! This is a disaster.

Dispatch: Ambo 61. Injured person. 460 West Wacker Drive.

----------

Street

Witness: Hey! Down here! This way.

Brett: Heads up!

Violet: Coming through.

Lou: Oh, thank God.

Charlotte: Get it off! Get it off! Get if off! Get it off.

Brett: Hey, let's have a look... What's your name?

Lou: Her name's Charlotte. I... I turned around for a minute, and she just started screaming.

Brett: Charlotte, we're gonna have you lay down on this bench over here, okay? Nice and slow. How old are you, Charlotte?

Charlotte: Eight.

Brett: Eight? You're already a fisherwoman, huh?

Charlotte: Yeah, I guess.

Violet: Charlotte, can you put your hand down for a sec just so we can take a look? Yeah. You got it. We have to immobilize that lure before we can transport her.

Brett: I'm worried about the pressure we'll put on it in the process. Could drive the hook deeper.

Violet: I think I can detach the hook from the lure there. What do you think?

Brett: I like that idea better. Let's do it.

Violet: All right.

Brett: All right, Charlotte, this isn't gonna hurt at all, I promise. I need you to stay very, very still, like a statue, okay? I'm gonna hold your hands... Good, good. You're doing great. Okay, I'm gonna let you sit up. Now, Charlotte, did you know that your eyes always move together? So since we wanna keep your injured eye very still, we're gonna have to bandage your good eye to keep it from moving too. Is that okay with you if I do that?

Charlotte: Okay.

Brett: Yeah? Okay. Here we go. Okay... Now close this eye... Okay.

Violet: There you go.

Brett: Okay, that's it. Now we're gonna stand you up, all right?

Violet: Here we go. Here's my hand. Yeah.

Brett: You can come with us.

Violet: You're a natural.

----------

Hayvenhurst: waiting room

Kidd: What do you think? Pretty nice place, huh?

Shep: You... You meant it, what you said.

Kidd: What did I say?

Shep: That you cared.

Kidd: Of course, I meant it, Shep.

Nurse: I'll take you to your room now, Shep... You ready?

Kidd: Yeah, go ahead. This is gonna be really good for you. Hey, I know it.

Shep: Um... You can tell your boyfriend that I... I dropped the charges. When they came looking for me this morning, I told them.

Kidd: What? You what?

----------

Molly's

Mike Knowles: Since he was the only witness, the state's attorney couldn't make a case without him. So they dropped it. It's done.

Carver: Done-done?

Mike Knowles: Done-done.

Kidd: So let's not have any more fists flying at the F&T Lounge.

Carver: Understood.

Boden: That was Frank Silva. And true to his word, he's calling off the IAD investigation, lifting Carver's suspension. And you are cleared to return next shift... Um, excuse me.

----------

Gallo: Oh, God, oh, God. Here he comes. This is it. Gentlemen, it was nice knowing all of you, okay?

Ritter: Hey, Chief.

Boden: Listen, about that group chat.

Gallo: Yeah, about that.

Boden: Um, I must have done something wrong 'cause I'm not getting your texts anymore.

Mouch: Hmm.

Boden: Maybe I took myself off it somehow.

Ritter: Uh, I can look into that for you, Chief. Those things can be tricky.

Gallo: We'll get you squared away.

Boden: Would you?

Gallo: Yeah.

Boden: I miss those little videos where the frogs are eating the worms.

Capp: They're hilarious, right?

Boden: Right. Thanks.

Mouch: Have a little more faith next time, guys.

Gallo: Cheers to that.

----------

Cruz: Lieutenant!

Kidd: Cruz. Oh, we were supposed to have a chat, weren't we? Sorry about that.

Cruz: No. No worries.

Kidd: What's going on?

Cruz: Um, I just, uh, wanted to talk to you about Severide. So look, I get that you two don't wanna broadcast this stuff to the whole house, but as the acting lieutenant on the squad, it would have been nice to know about his change of plans.

Kidd: What change of plans?

Cruz: You know, the fact that he's wrapped up this thing in Alabama, and now he's on some ATF investigation in... I don't even know where.

Kidd: What are you talking about, Cruz?

Cruz: Um, you know what? My bad. I obviously don't know what I'm talking about. I... Forget I said anything.

Kidd: No, no. Where did you hear this?

Cruz: It was just chit-chat at the academy. And those guys, they're always the last to know anything, so... I'm sorry I brought it up. Really.

----------

Amber's house

Brett: Amber, hi.

Amber: What are you doing here?

Brett: I really need to talk to you.
